Thanks, David.
OK, I bought the card from Comet online (£54.99 + £3.95 postage) and it arrived today.
Apart from not purchasing from Nextbase I've done everything they tell me to do :confused1:

Yet_Another

Is there an option on the device to format the card? I've had occasions when a camera doesn't like the Windows PC formatted files and doesn't play nicely. Can't speak to Nextbase ones, though.

@Yet Another makes a good point. Nextbase do recommend that the SD card is formatted in the dashcam.

Having formatted the card on my laptop and putting it in the dashcam I did get an "SD Card error" message along with "Format the SD card", which I then did in the dashcam but nothing got recorded. I'll have another go tomorrow just formatting it in the dashcam and also reduce the vid length time to 2 mins from 3 mins just in case it makes a difference.
Using a 3 min length means the lowest capacity I can go to for a days driving is 64GB should I have to get another card

Trainfish

Have you tried turning it off and then turning it on again?
Trainfish IT support is now closed by the way  :D

You all do realise that a Sandisk 128Gb U3 card for 15 quid will work just as well?

I don't want to give Nextbase the option of saying "Ah - if you'd bought one of ours you wouldn't have this problem. Read the manual. We told you so in there"

Newportnobby

Well, I'm baffled. Having formatted the sd card in the dashcam yesterday 'in situ' and it not working, this morning I brought the dashcam into my abode, plugged it in to the USB point on the laptop and then formatted it on the dashcam as opposed to the laptop. It now works.
I cannot see what difference it would make in formatting on the dashcam in the house rather than in the car but obviously it does.
I calculate (conservatively [and I don't mean politically]) it will give me 23 hours recording time using front camera only or 11½ hours using front & rear. As I have no intention of driving for 11½ hours I may as well use both. OK, rear view is hardly likely to yield much worth keeping but you never know what the camera might pick up. I'll simply download each days vids of the road trip onto my laptop, format the sd card (with dashcam plugged into the laptop like this morning) and repeat each day.
A shame the max vid length is just 3 minutes as it's going to be a right PITA going through each clip on my return

Trainfish

So you did turn it off and turn it on again, like I suggested?  :D

Hi

The Nextbase software that comes with the camera makes viewing the files easy on your laptop and if the camera has GPS will also show you on a map the location of the recording.

Hi Paul,
I appreciate that but, assuming I'm driving for maybe 7 hours a day that's 140 vids just using front camera alone. I'll not be spending my evenings looking at that lot so will be getting home with at least 560 x 3 minute vids to look at then delete/save
I do use the Nextbase software to view them

Hi

I only view mine if something has happened otherwise I don't bother. I just let the camera overwrite the files. If something does happen then I have the option to press the button to protect it or the camera will do it for me in case of an accident.

Cheers

Hi Paul,
I think you may have missed the start of the saga.............

I'm intentionally intending to use the dashcam to film the scenery I'll be travelling through on my road trip, especially the A82. This is what I'm hoping for albeit on a cheapskate method.
