So did the second one arrive?
Curious because the only thing currently in my sent box is a message I sent out in 2014.

Cyberspace seems to be eating my messages😳

At last the GWR HST has arrived  :claphappy:  :bounce:
.............still waiting for the coaches to make up the full set though.
Running in on DC is 50% complete. Got a sound decoder for the dummy power car in due course.  Quick photo emarging from Parsons Tunnel heading towards Teignmouth.

I suspect I've made a big mistake in falling for this model of State Rail Authority (NSW Australia) class 44. Up to this loco, I have bought no Australian equipment, but now I'll be 'needing' rolling stock to go with it not to mention additional locomotives. I've just opened a Pandora's Box. This loco is easily the most expensive DC locomotive I own. Presumably, the price is high due to the small model market in Australia causing problems with scale of production. Also, in terms of quality and detail the model is on a par with anything I own so that is not going to keep the price down.

The prototype class 44 locomotives were built between 1957 and 1967 by an Australian licensee following an ALCo design hence the family resemblance to the US FA and PA locomotives also made by ALCo. The class 44 is a 6 axle diesel developing 1800 hp. One end has a streamlined nose whereas the other end has a control cab with a vertical end which is somewhat unusual.

The colours in my photo are somewhat distorted from reality as the upper is actually a fairly bright red and doesn't have the pinkish hue that appears in the photo. The livery is the so-called candy livery that many SRA locomotives were painted in the '80s.

Ooh, a candy stripe!

Travelled behind a couple of those around the time I was starting my layout!

That's a really nice model.... who makes that then, Ian?  :hmmm:

Has it got lights?

George

As soon as I posted it I realised that I missed the manufacturer. An outfit with the unlikely sounding name of Gopher Models whose main distributor seems to be a company called Badger Bits. Neither gophers nor badgers live in Oz!

Yep, it has lights and windscreen wipers, and cab mirrors and loads of separately applied grab irons..

Phil Badger lives in Oz. He is co-founder of Ixion models who produced the Manor now marketed by Dapol.

Ixion now specialises in O gauge.

Hi Webbo,

I like that, it is similar to my Arnold RENFE Alco 1800....

http://www.railpictures.net/photo/183908/.

Glad it's more red than the pink. I don't envy what you've done ie. the pandora's box. I had the choice in my head when I started to model, France and/or Spain or Austria (not Australia). Went with France and Spain but still have urges towards Austria. I can't look at DM Toys Austrian section and have to stop myself googling any OBB train photos as I know it would mean another layout and financial ruin.

Do Gopher Models do passenger cars or is it all freight?

Looking forward to your potential new Oz layout  ;)

Cheers weave  :beers:
