Im just sat listening to some of billy connollys songs and couldnt resist starting a topic to see just which comedians are still popular at the moment, so which comedians do you lot like? and most of all why?

Personally I like Billy Connolly, Lee Mack and Lee Evans
Billy because hes a greta comedian, Lee evans as hes such a bouncy character and lee mack because he has quite a different sense of humour.

Thats my two cents, so join in haha
OK who took my cake?

love lee mack, not going out on bbcs very good.

I still like people who do one liners, tim vine, milton jones stewart frances and the like.

Can't stand 'comedians' who think that gurning to the camera and shouting is funny. Mostly I like dear old Spike Milligma (the well known typing error)/ The Goons. I used to think Frankie Boyle was brilliant until he decided that filth and foul language was funny (it ain't). I like clever comedy, not the dumbing down stuff - who the heck thinks Miranda Hart is funny ::).
Agree the likes of Tim Vine and Steven Wright with the deadpan one liners are excellent. The Fast Show was ace and is sadly missed, but some darker stuff like The League of Gentlemen was superb too.

My favourite two comedians of all time are still Victoria Wood and Jasper Carrott - Victoria Wood's 'An Audience With' program can still have me laughing so hard I can't breathe and I have seen it too many times to count (and even have it on CD so I can listen to it in the car - driving while creasing up is not advised though...  :-[ ) ANd Jasper Carrott and some of his silly songs are just great!
LNER and PKP fan in the home of the GWR!

Ive heard the jasper carrot magic roundabout sketch and that is very well done haha

As for the fast show, i did like mark williams in it, and of course hes a rail enthusiast too haha, did a brilliant show called mark williams on the rails O.o

The Big Yin (IMHO) was better just after his Humblebum days when he did superb diatribes like "The Crucifiction" and "The Boil Sooker".  Nowadays I feel he is just one of many who take what is current and rip it to bits.

Never like The Pythons, League of Gentlemen, the alternative crowd, this is a long list.

Les Dawson, Frankie Howerd, Dave Allen sadly all gone.

Peter Kay is one, of the very few, that can make me laugh out loud.

Another one for me has to be  Brian Blessed, he does make me giggle. especially  in the henry 8th bits he does haha. Hmm I can see myself watching too much comedy tonight O.O

Totally agree with this, I virtually know the words and yet still find it funny. Also her 'As seen on TV' has some hilarious moments - have the DVDs for these too.

Les Dawson has me in fits, particularly 'Cissy and Ada' and the magician Zebediah Twine.

Also like John Bishop, Ross Noble and the gone but not forgotten Dick Emery and Larry Grayson.
Just one Pendolino, give it to me, a beautiful train, from Italy

I'm amazed that the king of comedy (in my opinion) Tommy Cooper hasn't been mentioned yet!

Victoria Wood

I used to watch Victoria Wood.  Saw her live too.  The funniest sketch I remember was Julie Walters as teh old waitress who spilled the soups carrying them to the table, then when they called her back to complain she said "Ooh, you must have been quite peckish"

I too like clever comedy.  Stephen Fry (Love QI) at one end and Marcus Brigstocke at the other.  The Fast Show was wonderful too.  I like the early Eddie Izzard, Peter Kay, Ricky Gervais (stand-up - Politics is very funny - and The Office).  One of my all time favourite shows was Not The Nine O'Clock News - "When I caught Gerald he was wild", "Wild? I was absolutely livid".

But the best comedy show ever was Fauwly Towers.  Communication Problems is the best ever episode.  "I know nothing".

IMHO its sad that Spitting Image has never been equalled or the format revisited. Our current politicians look ripe for a good ripping 8)
