I do understand the complainant's point of view to a certain extent. Our experience is that bird feeders tend to provide an easy meal for other beasts as well. In our case it was squirrels, and I didn't see why I should pay out good money to ensure the survival of the grey pests. Also, the local cats (including ours) regarded any unwary birds as small KFCs, so we gave up on the idea. So the sparrows and blue tits have colonised the eaves of our house and our compost bin has been a nice warm restaurant for rats for many a long year. So long as they don't come into the house I don't mind. The sheep was bad enough...

Quote from: Dorsetmike on Today at 04:24:22 PMBought a small bird feeder that fixes to the window on suction pads; after three days I was 1 robin, 2 magpies and a pigeon (?small birds?). Today I get a note through the door roughly translated it says "thou shalt not fix bird feeders on thy patio" they attract rats! In 12 years here I have only seen one rat and that came indoors via the pipework.

That's because you didn't have a bird feeder.  :D
You could always get a cat (if you're allowed to) to catch any rats. We have 4 cats. Betty doesn't understand that she's not supposed to be able to get inside the bird table though:
