I have 3 x Alice Cooper 78 45s.
I, too, saw the Edgar Broughton Band early on but the first band I saw was 'Free' in 1969 at the Northampton Drill Hall

Moonglum

On the same bill as Jean-Luc Ponty was a band called Shanghai, who I saw twice (other time supporting Greenslade) and don't recall them at all. Here they from 1975 on the OGWT performing "Over The Wall", first time I have heard them since, might be your kinda thing Mick @Newportnobby, bit of a Free-ish sound...

That has more than just hints of 'Free', Tim. I can almost imagine them playing that song. The bass player, just like Andy Fraser in most films of Free, was pretty much ignored too.
I did come across this version of 'Mr. Big' last week that at least gives Andy some footage. Amazing to think they were so young at the time, yet so talented.

Yes, a bit of a raw feel to Shanghai Tim.
Nor bad at all but not something to go on any of my playlists I'm afraid.

Talking of support bands here are The Standard Lamps.

I saw them about 10 years ago, maybe a bit less, supporting The Bluetones and they caught my eye (or rather ear) at the time :
Quite a tight little band with a crisp, clear sound I think.
