I have 3 x Alice Cooper 78 45s.
I, too, saw the Edgar Broughton Band early on but the first band I saw was 'Free' in 1969 at the Northampton Drill Hall

Moonglum

On the same bill as Jean-Luc Ponty was a band called Shanghai, who I saw twice (other time supporting Greenslade) and don't recall them at all. Here they from 1975 on the OGWT performing "Over The Wall", first time I have heard them since, might be your kinda thing Mick @Newportnobby, bit of a Free-ish sound...

That has more than just hints of 'Free', Tim. I can almost imagine them playing that song. The bass player, just like Andy Fraser in most films of Free, was pretty much ignored too.
I did come across this version of 'Mr. Big' last week that at least gives Andy some footage. Amazing to think they were so young at the time, yet so talented.

Yes, a bit of a raw feel to Shanghai Tim.
Nor bad at all but not something to go on any of my playlists I'm afraid.

Talking of support bands here are The Standard Lamps.

I saw them about 10 years ago, maybe a bit less, supporting The Bluetones and they caught my eye (or rather ear) at the time :
Quite a tight little band with a crisp, clear sound I think.

Newportnobby

Maybe one of the greatest intros (and endings) of any Floyd song. The version on 'Pulse' is epic

This has always been, for me, the definitive version of 'Supper's ready' and is never far from the top of my playlist. OK, there are 2 drummers much of the time, but it just strikes me a combination of Phil Collins at the height of his vocals and superb musicianship can't be beaten

EtchedPixels

At the moment Algal the Bard doing Metallica and Iron Maiden stuff

It's really interesting seeing what happens to songs when people take out the effects and turn them totally acoustic. Some stuff there is nothing left  ;D but other stuff it really exposes the underlying music as with Iron Maiden and Metallica

I quite like that but couldn't listen to too much of it.
A nice medieval/baroque and slightly folky feel to it.
Much better than the original version  :D

I always liked Supper's Ready and no doubt listened to it way too much back in the day but, like a lot of music from that era, I find it very dated these days I'm afraid.
Nice listen though, probably the first time I've heard SR right through for around 25 years.
