Thanks Martin, I think the album is a "grower", much like his other releases. I have to say his vocals leave me a bit unimpressed at times - but he is 78!

Cheers,

The Table-Top Railway is an attempt to create, in British 'N' gauge,  a 'semi-scenic' railway in the old-fashioned style, reminiscent of the layouts of the 1930s to the 1950s.

Something I heard in the Beer Shop

This is very lighthearted.
It's a track by Ron Gelinas who "produces royalty feee chill beats for everyday work and play" according to his Spotify biography.

We have a newsagents come beer store in town which I visit on occasion in order to stock up on essentials (and I don't mean newspapers).

Whilst in there this afternoon I was rather taken by the music playing.

This is where Shazam comes into its own.
A quick "Shazam" of the track told me it was Ron Gelinas and a song called Easy.
Nothing at all spectacular but it caught my attention so I thought I'd share it here :

An interesting album from my youth

As a teenager I was never really into Deep Purple although I thought that their Deep Purple in Rock album was fairly good.

However, I did but Jon Lord's Gemini Suite out of interest.
I haven't heard it for perhaps 45 years at least but gave it a listen this evening whilst watching a few trains in the train room.
It was an interesting concept of collaboration between rock and classical music and not a bad attempt in my opinion.
See what you think :

That's a blast from the past Martin @port perran . Just had a quick listen and will return to it - not heard it before. Like you, Deep Purple was not in my Premiership League of bands but they did with out doubt produce some corkers.

I did though have "Sarabande" by Jon Lord on vinyl and liked this track...

Hard to believe it's the same guy that does the intro to "Child in Time". If @Train Waiting hasn't heard of David Gilmour then I am sure he won't have heard of Jon Lord (RIP)! Only teasing John.

Tim

In my yoof I had many Deep Purple albums but then went off them for some reason and got rid of all my vinyls. Comparatively recently I have, however, downloaded 'In Rock', and my favourite track is 'Hard Lovin' Man'.
I used to have their 'Concerto for Group and Orchestra' album with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra but found only short sections were decent enough.

In the meantime I'm listening to select tracks from Justin Hayward & John Lodge's 'Blue Jays' album.
Trés smooth :)

Listening to Planet Rock's Rock Block tonight, this rather nice song came up. I have not heard of Buck and Evans before, so here they are with Slow Train...

For fans of Progressive Rock here is a band I came across this afternoon.

Red Bazar with City and the Stars.

They are certainly worth a listen and will investigate further this evening.

I think they've  got something.
Powerful vocals and some rather nice guitar work in there.

Quite pleasant/mellow.
Vocals remind me more of a very young Greg Lake  :hmmm:

Thanks Martin @port perran . The vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Peter Jones has been in a few bands including Camel and John Holden. I have struggled with his voice a bit in the past but here it's not bad at all and helped by the band and the song (nice guitar solo).

Here is Peter on keyboards, live with Camel playing the awesome "Lunar Sea"...

Only Andy Latimer on lead guitar survives from the original band. Colin Bass on bass and Denis Clement on drums.

Cheers,

Tim

Had to add this as well...

The years have been good to me, it was the weekends that did the damage.

Why have I never heard of this bloke?
Thanks, Malc. I enjoyed that and will pursue other stuff from him

Edit:- Sounds like the album 'Song of Innocence' is pretty good so I'll be getting that
