Quote from: Moonglum on August 19, 2024, 07:55:03 PMI have seen that epic version before Mick and great to see Jason Bonham on the drums - superb!

Nice one @Snowwolflair - I was lucky to see Led Zeppelin live at Earls Court in 1975 (£2.50 a ticket in the days when you applied for tickets by post!!).

Cheers,

Tim
I saw them three times in the very early 70s including on a Back to the Clubs tour at Bath Pavillions.
The tour was not really advertised so the venue which holds maybe 2000 was half empty.
Having said that, I have never really been a big fan of theirs.
And Mick @Newportnobby, you have opened a can of worms there with Greatest Track ever.  :D  :D
I'm sure I'll get used to cream first soon.

@port perran Hi Martin - hence the 'IMHO' bit but I'm sure we'd like to hear other opinions on that subject expressed :)

Bealman

Ok... Bealman was introduced to the album in his last year at school. Liked some of it but not all of it.

I especially liked "Whole lotta love" cos I was trying to learn guitar at the time, and it was dead easy to play.

With my memory, it probably wasn't even on that album!  ;D
Vision over visibility. Bono, U2.

Newportnobby

Quite right. 'Whole lotta love' was on Led Zep 2 and 'Stairway to Heaven' was on Led Zep 4 (aka 'Runes')

I've just been listening to some old Marillion who, at the time, were oft referred to as 'a poor man's Genesis'
I think that was unfair but there's no doubt Fish frequently sounds like Peter Gabriel :hmmm:

Quote from: Moonglum on August 19, 2024, 04:45:13 PMBeautiful, what a voice and what a song. I have to admit she was one of my favourites when I was six years old with her release of "I Only Want to be With You"!

However, Martin @port perran this was the first version of "Spooky" I heard...

The first version I heard (as a Teenage Goth) was this one, from the delightfully weird Lydia Lunch

Quote from: Newportnobby on August 16, 2024, 10:23:16 PMI present for your delectation the somewhat haunting 'Song to the Siren' by 'This Mortal Coil' which I have on 10" vinyl
(I believe 'This Mortal Coil' were, in fact, the Cocteau Twins amongst others)
The song itself is a Tim Buckley composition

I was obsessed with the 4AD label in my youth. I still have stuff by Xmal Deutschland, Bauhaus, Cocteau Twins, Colourbox and Dead Can Dance in my collection.

A band I saw probably 8 times in the early 70s was Man who hailed from Wales.
They always gave great value for money at gigs with a loyal following around the country.
Here they are in the early 80s with Spunk Rock

Any old rockers who failed to see Man really missed out.
They were certainly one of my favourites around the small clubs, town halls and college scene.
I'm sure I'll get used to cream first soon.

Yes Martin @port perran ! Great stuff from Man, sadly didn't see them live and worst still didn't have any of their albums. However, a school chum lent me "Back into the Future" and thought it OK-ish until I got to this amazing gem...

I am sure you know it. Then of course there is a 20 minute version of "Spunk Rock". Interesting that the drummer went onto Dire Straits to replace Pick Withers.

I had that album and many others by Man and C'mon is very much one of my favourite tracks.
Now......for a bonus point, which station was used in the cover photo?
No cheating by resorting to Google

Moonglum

Well... Martin @port perran , having googled your question, I am going to take an educated guess and say Taplow on the Great Western Mainline.

Cheers,

Tim

You are, of course, quite correct Tim but I did say no Googling so you lose a point  :D

There is a lot of googling going on in Taplow, but the least said about that the better  :smiley-laughing:

Moonglum

Awww Martin! If I hadn't cheated and broken your rules I would have to have said that I didn't know. Ironically, I regularly commuted past Taplow station on my way to Swindon for about 14 years!

Cheers,

I saw 'Man' a few times back in the day. It's one of the reasons I bought the Greasy Truckers album and I still call up the YouTube one when I'm at my laptop :D
