Regarding post #5886, I don't blame you at all for your purchases. They are all lovely models. I've always liked six wheel milk tankers and have one myself.

Bit of a shame Dapol can't spell "Independent", but at least they got it right on the model!

Quote from: earlofsodbury on June 03, 2025, 05:19:01 PMHad no idea the horseboxes were quite so widespread, nor so well-used: I'd read they were somewhat underutilised!

The BR Mk1 horse boxes were underutilised. 115 were built between 1955 and 1958 for a traffic that was already in decline as road going boxes improved and the motorway network came into being. Most were allocated to the Eastern and Southern regions (50 and 56 respectfully). Midland region received five, whilst the western only got four.

Livestock transport on BR ended in 1975, with a few horse boxes still in use at that point. Many saw use as train heating vans, with one converted into an inspection saloon. I'm surprised more weren't converted into staff vehicles but I'm guessing the urine soaked metal work was in poorer condition than the CCT and ferry vans used instead.

Ooh yes, that would have been embarrassing!  ;D

Thanks for the info - always more to learn!  :dunce:
I have literally no idea what I'm doing...

My Rapido Peak has arrived. I need to have a play before deciding what 45/46 I might want/need.

No mention of carburettors or spring compressors, but all very jolly

I really am sorely tempted, but I have 4 Farish ones to shift if I'm going to make the change.

My 'Peak' arrived today. No issues at all. Great runner and looker

However, I am not happy at all with the small purchase which came with it. All the pics on t'interweb seemed to show these as ready made up. Being totally cack handed following my triple bypass 9 years ago, there is no way I can put these  :censored: things together so a total waste of money :veryangry:

I know what you mean. I have still not any success with that one I'm fiddling with.

Glad to hear the Peak is good!
