Hi all,

Martin (Port Perran) mentioned this morning on his wonderful Port Perran/Trepol bay layout thread that he was off to meet a fellow forumite today. Unfortunately for him, it was me  :) .

But, in true Mike @Nbodger fashion......where did we meet? (sorry Mike for stealing your journalistic skills  :worried:)

A little clue to the location while I sort out the rest of the pics and continue.....

Cheers, weave  :beers:

Been there, done that, got the T shirt.

But not for about 15 years..... We still had three aircraft carriers in the RN then..

The last time I went was a formal dinner in one of the Royal dockyard display sheds after two days' sailing races. The previous year's dinner had been on 'Warrior'.

Pompey indeed!!!.....

...although the weather wasn't great so straight from the station to the pub. Unfortunately, 'The Ship Anson' pub wasn't open as they'd had a fire last month so 'The Ship and Castle' had to suffice.

Martin wasn't quite sure about the green stuff on his plate but I think he enjoyed the ham, egg and chips. I thought I'd have more respect for my body with just chips and cider  :D......

I know it's a railway Forum but we saw a few more nautical vessels.

Brittany Ferry.......

and the Gosport Ferry.....

After a lovely day and 1 or 3 pints, it sadly had to end :(.

Martin thanked me for the offer of my boat to row back to the Falmouth..........

......but as the tide was out, he thought he'd get a train......

We said farewell and off he went.....

THANK YOU Martin for a lovely day  and I hope that your train had a toilet  :). Mine did and this made me laugh although I nearly fell over taking the pic as we went over points ......

Thank you everyone else for reading.

Cheers, weave  :beers:

But who paid?

It's soon gets expensive paying for Martins drinks and food. Ah Chris possibly that why you only had chips.

Hope you weren't drinking from jam jars  :hmmm:

That only happens in Teignmouth 😆

And just to prove that there were two of us - here's two dodgy geezers before catching their respective trains home (or in my case back to my daughter's house in Bath) :

Thanks Chris for a lovely day out.
Ham, egg and chips is a real pub favourite of mine so that went down really well.
Plus we put the world to rights and had a good old gossip.

I'm sure I'll get used to cream first soon.

Oh dear, I'm sure I didn't like that this morning. How long were we in that pub?

 :offtopicsign:

When I was at the Merchant Navy officers' college at Warsash, we used to play a lot of sport against the various RN and FAA establishments in the Portsmouth, Lee on Solent, and Fareham areas. Mostly the after match refreshments were quite subdued, tea, coffee, sandwiches, etc.

But on one occasion, we played, I think, HMS Nelson (the headquarters of the Portsmouth RN, anyway) and the was a different life compared to us poor MN lads......wood lined staircase to the great hall, paintings of RN ships all the way, and silver service by a group of WRENS. Nearly made some of us change career........ ;)

Excellent.   :beers:

Just one question -

Did you get to see HMS Warrior, or did you spend too long over lunch.....?

PS Great framing of the photo of the station, very impressive structure! No wonder train tickets cost so much.  :D

Hi Keith,

No we didn't go on HMS Warrior, that would have taken up far too much drinking luncheoning time  :).

In fact, I've never been on it. My wife went to a Wedding Reception there years ago (not her own I might add) and apparently it's lovely inside.

Looks like they're doing it up anyway so let's just say it was closed for Winter renovation  ;).

For those that don't know Portsmouth, the Harbour station looks like an old barn that's been toshed with paint (I'm suprised it hasn't fallen into the sea) and the tower is the Spinnaker Tower which is way behind it not on top of it .

I haven't been up the Spinnaker Tower either. Football, trains and drinking seem to be my main hobbies although not necessarily in that order  :D. I must get out more and do things.

Cheers, weave  :beers:

Absolutely fabulous - it doesn't say anything about broken toy trains.  That's the disposal system following my next my big clear out arranged.

I'm glad you both had a spiffing day out with lashings of ginger beer.

Best wishes

John
