For those interested in haulage, I have tested one of mine and achieved 63 16 ton coal wagons before evidence of slipping started on slightly unlevel areas - the model still made it all the way round.

I've also fitted all the detail parts (apart from the front plough and cylinder caps) - there's enough clearance for the front steps to go on also.

Cheers,
Alan

Wot no Brake Van??

If it's a Peco one it's probably over the back of the layout somewhere :D

That looks very impressive Dr Al.

Perhaps, as with the fake teak Thompsons, we should be saying that, although BachFar are slow, when they finally get here they are worth the wait!  (And the cost...)

I hear that Chris Higgs is preparing a replacement motion etch for the 2mm Assoc if you want to gild the lily.

Richard

Hehe, I was wondering if the signalman should have sent 9 bells one way and 4 followed by 5 bells the other  :D

Well my early crest 8F arrived today and what a superb model it is!

Pickups all properly adjusted on the loco from the off, it runs like a swiss watch, totally silent, just rail noise to be heard. I fitted the Zimo MX658N18 I had waiting and the You-Choos sound is top notch, it will be interesting to see how it compares to the factory sound when my late crest one arrives.

A long wait it is true, but Bachmann have well and truly delivered with this loco, and I am inclined to agree with Dr Al, it is their best yet and absolutely worth the money.

That's all the Farish steam locos we know about delivered now, I wonder what might be next and when it will be announced?

Still awaiting the new or rather reworked 5MT & N Class with built in Sound, does the rework from 6pin to Next18 and factory fitting a speaker count as new  ???

Next on my list is the Class 31 which has been slowly moving backwards, especially after they decided to take all the Non sound versions and fit them with sound and offer them ahead of the non sound ones, (It was the other way around until a few months ago)  sound ones are supposed to be here this year and non sound now pushed back to next year.

All the chat about this new 8f prompted me to give my 2 old models a run..first time for weeks. One is a poole with tender pickups..the other a chinese with added pickups. Both run very well....and to my eyes look good. No doubt i will be adding a new one when the dust settles and all the user problems have been aired and sorted.
i used to be indecisive...but now i'm not so sure.

Wow, 63! That's UM levels of haulage. Having just been able to admire mine on the coffee table so far I have to agree - the original might be a workhorse but the model is pretty spectacular.

It'll need to pull more than 63 to beat our favourite Dapol 28xx which can pull over 100, and up 1:100 and round curves too. I suspect the 8F won't do that....but it does look superb and will only normally need to pull 30 or so.

No reports anywhere of 8Fs that can't pull the skin off a rice pudding, thank goodness.

It would appear Bachmann/Farish have got the milling issue that plagued the WD and A2 sorted- wheels milled too deeply on some of those meant traction tyres didn't actually touch the rails.  The result was some folks had really weak locos while others wondered what the fuss was all about.

Still missing from the Poole line-up for revamp are the Crab and 2P/Compound family?

But I don't wish to re-start a wish list once again!

63, If I counted correctly that's only 2 more than your old 3Mt, which is more of an indication as to how good the 3MT is rather than anything against the 8F which is a superb model and probably their best to date.
