Well guy's, going to be a fab year (or two i know before anyone points out these things sometimes slip a little from announcement!!) but rtr non air con Mk 11's at last!!!!!!!!
Plus a 37/4, 55, 70...
and then there's Dapol....

bread and cheese time and a bit of ebay me thinks!!

I agree, and reckon this year will be a good one for the manufacturers (and a poor one for many wallets).
Sadly the multi coloured worm lovers aren't really catered for, and there will always be some steamers wanted that never seem to appear, but overall the announcements for 2012 (note I didn't say arrivals) should be welcomed by N gaugers everywhere as being excellent news for our hobby.

The Mk2's sound good.  I wonder what liveries we'll have?!

I'm guessing you'd like to see them in NSE?  ;) :smiley-laughing:

Modellers have been crying out for the early mark 2s for years...great news they are finally being produced. A new Deltic and 37/4 are also good, but the choice of 37417 is a little odd, bearing in mind rhis was an earlier offering from Bach/Far.

dr deltic

Didn't know the 37 would be 417 but will be such a radical improvement in what we have had i am sure it will fly of the shelves.

Having said that, i have a load of detailed and modded 37/4's I know i will be loath to get rid of so if other people thinking on the same lines, can't see a mass dumping on ebay just yet.

Can't say the same for the 55 though. Be glad to have a really decent model at last.

Mk11's in blue and grey first hopefully with a breather for my bank before they do the NSE version please. Got to say, well looking forward to these.

Bet its a dead cert we will get the Cravens and no doubt the lightweight in due course. Talking to a man in the know in the trade, reckon's not such a big market for second generation DMU's but first generation is a different ball game.
This suprised me and I as quite taken aback, having spent a small fortune equipping myself with a raft of long waited for 150/153/156 models thinking after such a wait, everyone else probably has too.

Of course, think the manufacturer's need to remember, there is only so much disposable to go round and hopefully, maybe a starter range will appear with a budget price to match for the next generation of modellers who don't have the big bucks required.

Was looking at the 4CEP yesterday, stunning....nearly good enough to make me part with the required till reality kicked in. I don't model pre 1984 southern! But it is nice....an err....oh ...no.

How rich we are guy's compared to 10 years ago! Look at the 03, 08 etc. Now I am sure someone will point out various probs with all, but for me, this is the most amazing time I have ever known in N.

I shall be keeping my old 37/4's for now. I can't see them doing the Welsh celebrity set that EWS ran for a while. Besides which I seem to have spent my modelling money at Shapeways instead ;)

doing a bit of Irish N? see Captain E has done some stuff for the big GM's.
Can see this taking off. You will be doing etches for Cravens next lol

Am i missing something?

I already have loads of early Mk2s in blue grey, provincial/TransPennine, NSE. The blue-grey ones are TPM conversions, but the others are straight out of the box. They lack interiors, so you have to add them yourself, not only for looks but for much needed weight.

IMHO, this was BR's best ever stock, both for comfort and looks.
Two rails good. Three better.

dr deltic

youre not alone, have a rake of mk2b/c's i did 15yrs ago using Bernies inlays and new resin underframe details. Only did 4 though!

Was lucky enough to pick up some seconds from farish a while back which made an easy respray into Trans-Pennine but the are 2bs when really i think they should be 2/2a's. The Regional's were pretty good though and still command a fair price second hand.

If the new ones are half as good as the new Mk1's, will be seriously good.
Never realised till bought the book, how big  a subject even Mk11 coaches is.

You are right about the comfort, remember the de classified Mk11 compo's on the Skeggy's in the late 80's. Happy day's!

Yes, I am afraid so - Farish never did proper non air-con Mk2s they just did air-cons incorrectly liveried as non air-cons.  The early Mk2s had completely different roofs, underframes and some had extra doors in the middle!

Cheers, Mike

To be fair there were some Mk.2b and 2c TSOs in both NSE and Regional Railways liveries, though the majority were the earlier ones.

Did Farish ever do any Mk2bs or 2cs with correct roof?

BernardTPM

No, but for the 2c it wasn't that hard to correct - same with the underframe. They did print the correct style windows on the sides. For air-cons there should really be a vent moulded over the droplight in the wrap round end doors so the bodyshell has always been a compromise, so printing the revised windows was a reasonable way of extending the range on a small budget.

Nope. But it's easy enough to fit new vents. Ian Stoate then does the correct underwear for them.

Or you can wait for the new ones. I doubt however Bachmann will be doing the regional railways ex NSE brake first in a hurry
