Two rails good. Three better.

The London Transport liveried Pannier Tank will make life interesting on eBay for a bit. Its previous incarnation as a "limited edition" model shows up once in a blue moon and usually goes for silly money, so I'm betting there'll be a short period of the new ones being listed as 'rare' and people who haven't read about the new releases buying them for far above RRP.

The new 4 wheel vans sound a great idea. If they're anything near as good as the Dapol ones, but nearly £20 each? worrying.

Tis pricey but that's full whack. Let's hope the box shifters will knock them out for about the £15 mark ;)

If you look at the prices they are climbing batch by batch. I think that's going to keep on and we might as well get used to it. The currency shifts are not in our favour and Chinese wages are rising rapidly.

True. I think we've had a bit of a sweet spot where we've been able to get used to what are relatively cheap N gauge products (Historically speaking) based on old designs and toolings that must be a couple of decades old now so if we're going to get the super detailed new models we want, we're going to have to expect to pay for the investment in design time and new tooling that's required to produce them.

Chris

Hopefully the manufacturers will realise soon if Chinese wages start reaching UK levels to start bringing production back to the UK - particularly with the reduced shipping costs, and of course this would also help UK jobs.

In relation to the announcements I'm very pleased to see the Class 70 announced plus some more coaches in the new mk1 range, and the mk2s are definitely well overdue! Lots to look forward to and save up for...

I must admit I got quite excited when I saw the class 70 mentioned, until I looked at the Farish website and saw it was the Freightliner one. Still one can hope. At least the Bullied coaches are something to wait for.

Fortunately the Farish by Bachmann 31 chassis is pretty close for 20003 and I did the initial designs for one a long time back which Allen Doherty then fixed up (its actually how I got started in etching).

I did redo the design later on to see if it would work in resin but there were some bits that just won't going to work out. Somewhere in the oddments box I've got a pair of assembled etched shells for 20003, one with buffers and buffer beam which has been test painted green (but needing a tidy up or a strip and repaint) and one with no buffer beams fitted that's unpainted.

If you're interested send me a PM as they might as well go to a good home.

I'm still trying to do the continental stock for the Newhaven boat train to go with it. I got stuck on a suitable roof for a very long time but 3D print has finally solved that so I can begin to move on, once I can find where I put the rest of the test build from 18 months ago!

Do you know if Allen has corrected the artwork for 20003?  The version that I saw looked like a mix of 20001 and 3 - in particular the windows and roof profile looked wrong.

I was thinking of building one for DEMU's Update 70 to counter all the articles about Fuglies!

Cheers, Mike

It accurately matches the drawings but as well all know that's not always the whole story. My own impression is that the cab windows are slightly too wide and the roof profile may be slightly shallow (its hard to tell if thats the window width that causes the impression or is real)

Alan

(Mind you it could be worse - I've yet to see two drawings of a class 21/29 that agree with each other, or *any* drawing or model that agrees with the photos!)

Fair few items i'm looking forward to from Farish. Over the moon at the Mk2As will certainly be picking up a few TSOs to re-spray into some of West Coast and Riviera's stock. Providing they prove popular i am hoping next year will see the BFK announced purely as i want a support coach for my black 5! And all being well the Mk2s will come soon aswell (vacuum braked versions) so i can do the proper ones for my Vintage Trains rake :p

Defiantly going to be getting a Class 70 or two, DB Class 60, NR 37 and a few of the new coaches (Bullieds/LMS Full Brake/More Mk1s)

Lets hope Dapol don't announce too much otherwise i may have to start doing some overtime!

The BFK would be a fairly easy conversion anyway as the BSO used the BFK bodyshell. Externally, apart from the number, the only difference is the pattern of roof vents at the passenger end. Internally it has four first class compartments rather than open seating bays. Proper 2nd class spacing didn't appear on Mk.2 coaches until the BSOs built for NIR in 1970 and the Mk.2c BSO in mainland Britain (there were no Mk.2b BSOs).

Ive been praying for intercity Mk 2's to be done for years ;D
