Although I'm looking for something specific, it might be a good idea to list everything under this category here. It would make searches much easier for anyone who is looking for seated N Gauge passengers.

Does anyone know where I can get seated passengers for 1930? I'm looking for little people to add inside carriages, but modern clothing just won't do it. Any ideas?

Assume this is for passengers waiting for trains, seated on a platform bench.

Some days its just not worth gnawing through the straps.

If it's purely for that purpose then just cut the legs off standing passengers for seating inside coaches assuming they do them for 1930?

For inside a coach I think you could get away with any era figure providing they were in dull colours as it would be diificult to make out any more than the rough "person type shape".  Does that make sense ?

That does make sense, thanks. The lack of headgear might be a bit of a giveaway, if that can be spotted though the windows.

I haven't seen any specifically pre-war passengers at all so far. It's likely that I'm not the only one wondering about it so I thought I'd ask here.

I use the cheapo Chinese figures in my coaches, you have to over paint some of the "brighter" painted ones but they are very cheap and if you are adding 10 or so peeps to a carriage make it more economical.

There used to be someone who sold packs of just seated figures on Ebay but the supplier seems to have disappeared, if anyone knows differently please let me know.   To overcome this lack of supply the last lot of passengers I fitted were indeed cut down standing figures as that was the only way I could get enough to populate my latest rake of Collett coaches.

Not sure you necessarily need hats on men inside the carriages, but you would on women.  Small hats may not be noticeable at normal ranges.

Look at pictures of 30's trains and see how much you can see from the outside..

I got some Prieser seated people to go in my Devon Belle it turned out You would still have to cut them off at the waist because the seats are too shallow for thier legs so I Personaly think the cheap Chinese ones are the best idea as you can't see much through the windows any way.

If they're male passengers with hats and any sense of etiquette, they would've removed them on entering the carriage so they shouldn't be necessary!

I should think painting their clothing brown, grey, navy and dark green should do the trick to give them a more period look.

Quite right, d-a-n
Those of the correct disposition could model N gauge hats on seats/luggage racks, though

I reckon a deftly applied spot of paint could make quite the n gauge bowler hat for those in first class!

I'll be looking to do the same but from around 1980, these don't look too bad if you must have legs on them. It looks like there are a few green aliens in there though.

My first and so far only attempt:

It actually looks better in real life. The seated figures are from a cheap pack of sitting figures of Chinese origin, I still needed to remove most of their legs to fit them in. Also I should have given Ms. Pointy-Head at the far left a trim with the scissors. The dining car staff (standing) are from Kato and have much better detailing, unfortunately it's barely visible.

(Hmm, I'll have to try a drive-by shot with the mini video camera some time).

If you do shoot a drive past video, then Ms Pointy head will not be noticed  :D

cheers John.
