Turn up the volume for full effect. If you've never stood around one of these, it really pounds you.

An interesting choice Mick @Newportnobby . Of all the PF's albums prior to "DSOTM" it's the one I didn't have. Written as a film score, it fits in uneasily between "Meddle" and "DSOTM" and almost comes across as a selection of outtakes. Two tracks from the album were played at Earls Court London where I saw them live in 1973. The setlist was of course focussed on "DSOTM" but included some older gems. The second time I saw them in 1974 at The Empire Pool Wembley was a bit of a disappointment. The setlist included early versions of what would become "Animals" and "Shine on you Crazy Diamond".

Listening to it while I type, it's not their greatest but not unpleasant.

Here is a recording of the Empire Pool gig, might not be the actual night Mrs Moonglum and I saw them...

Actually I am enjoying it now, I think the first half of their set included new works that I wasn't expecting and really wanted to hear their old stuff, John @Trainfish may already have this in his collection? So in hindsight what we heard was classic Floyd in the making.

Tim

Update - really enjoying it!
Further Update - now nearly at the end of DSOTM and I cannot for the life of me understand why I was disappointed at the gig. The DSOTM part of this performance is available on CD.

That's not my favourite PF offering but not bad at all and as @Moonglum says, it is perfectly listenable.
PF are a band I've never seen live which is a shame as I would have liked to see them in their early days.

I've been listening to a bit of Fleetwood Mac this evening whilst running some trains on the layout.
This is THE Fleetwood Mac you understand not the pop group that they became.
Anyway, here is one of my favourite tracks :
Again, a band I never saw live but the opportunity never seemed to present itself.
I'm sure I'll get used to cream first soon.

I shall listen to that Empire Pool gig in full tomorrow @Moonglum .
I've just listened to Crazy Diamond and am impressed with it's rawness,
To me that sounds much better than the rather over produced and  grandiose versions of latter year.

Maybe, @Trainfish , I've been missing something with PF.

I'm afraid that I did somewhat give up with them after DSOTM which I didn't take to at all I'm afraid.
I'm sure I'll get used to cream first soon.

Likewise.
@port perran Martin, I think you do F.Mac a disfavour in referring them to being a pop group. I know what you mean as regards their singles/videos (e.g. Little Lies) but they also put out some pretty awesome rock at times. Here's one from the sad 'Tusk' album which bombed, despite having some excellent tracks on it

Bealman

Yes, that Tusk album bombed miserably, my view being that after the phenomenal success of the Rumours album, they got a little head strung.

My favourite FM stuff is the Peter Green period - things like Albatross, Oh Well, and a track I can't recall the name of which had a single lead guitar note which went on forever.

Thanks, Martin - it's ringing bells but only vaguely. I had it on my old reel to reel tape recorder, which I still have, but it's given up on me.

I have FM's 'Man of the World' on 45 which is a Peter Green in depression mode song
The B side is a pastiche by Earl Vince & The Valiants (alias FM) entitled 'Somebody's gonna get their head kicked in tonite'
Strange combination :hmmm:

Bealman

Ah, Man of the World. Forgot about that one!  Good to see the Immediate label. I had a single here in Australia which has gone missing over the years - Immediate label again, America by the Nice. Diamond Hard Blue Apples of the moon on the back.
