After listening to a bit of Dolly last night on YouTube, I ended up here...


I had quite a few of her albums on vinyl and now only one on CD. A great voice but somehow didn't make the big time. Still going strong today.

@Moonglum   ok so I had Stay With Me Still Dawn on a 1979 compilation album "Night Moves".  It's not something I'll put on nowadays but it is a great ballad.  That short guitar solo/riff near the end still comes to mind without even playing the track again

As for Dolly, well again not my thing but clearly she was a star of that genre.   I think of her more from her appearance in The Orville

A bit of rain this morning, then sunny and now overcast here in Bucks - no T-Storms!

Showers overnight then a few heavy bursts around 5-30 this morning here in South Devon.
Again, no thunder.

Of the two, Supertramp gets my vote.

I like that Martin @port perran . Both the drummer and guitarist have been in the Steven Wilson backing band (at one time or another). All sought after musicians.

Having always been a devotee of John Barry's music, I watched the BBC James Bond prom last night. However, I found it to be very similar to the Prog Rock prom in that the vocalists, all of whom I'd never heard of, were just not up to scratch. The single exception to this was Lulu who, basically, showed them all how it's done at the age of 77
There were the odd tracks like the theme from 'Man from UNCLE' and 'The Avengers', although the latter had a tenuous Bond link as Diana Rigg ( ) was in 'On Her Majesty's Secret Service'
Strangely, at the final curtain call Lulu was not there  

We watched it as well Mick @Newportnobby and enjoyed it for the most part.

I agree that the singers were mainly unknowns (until I looked them up) and Omar was awful and ruined "You Only Live Twice" and "We Have all the Time in the World". The remaining singers for us were pretty good. Lulu looked emotionally overcome at the end of "The Man with the Golden Gun" which might explain her not coming back on-stage at the end.

I suppose that like a lot of the things some of the Bond themes are so iconic listening to another singer doing it can be disappointing. Most of the other singers are successful West End musical performers. The singer who did "Skyfall", I couldn't find out much about out her, certainly had a powerful voice. It was odd that a few numbers were not Bond themes were included and the programme shows a couple of themes were edited out. The Radiohead alternative to "Spectre" was not great at all.

The BBC Concert Orchestra were good.

I tend to listen to vocals with my eyes shut and only open them if I hear something making an impression on me. In that respect I guess I'm like that awful TV programme 'The Voice' where the judges only turn their chair round to see the vocalist if they like what they hear.
I'd not heard of the vocalists as I don't do musicals (apart from a long ago attendance at the original line up of 'The Rocky Horror Show').
I do think Lulu was staggered by the reception she got but it was about 70% through the prom so I'd have thought she'd have recovered by the end
