Not a spoiler but the difference between 3hr radio and 2hr TV was half an hour talking to David Baddiel in the interval and the radio programme actually being just 2 1/2 hrs not 3.
Ergo the show next Friday should be the prom in its entirety.

I had a listen to the audio of "Prog Rock at the Proms" last night (NZ time.)
Someone has downloaded it to YouTube in its entirety, if anyone wants to have a listen.
I thought it was pretty good overall, Carl Palmer's drumming sounded awesome. Some items worked better than others. It was a little strange listening to an orchestra imitating Rick Wakeman imitating an orchestra on "And You and I," though I quite liked the result.

I am afraid it is a thumbs down from me for the Prog Rock Proms (just watched it), a few things just about worked but overall IMO the choice of singers was poor - most of whom I hadn't heard of. The orchestral arrangements were some what flat at times with no one really seeming to be enjoying themselves. There have been much better crossover Proms and this one just didn't gel.

PPS Peter Hammill was awful.

At last. I can break silence
The opening 'Fanfare for the Common Man' seemed like they were practising - the brass section was awful and sometimes jarring. The vocalists were extremely poor throughout, with the exception of Vanessa Haynes who blew me away with Floyd's 'Great Gig in the Sky'
I've never really been a fan of Carl Palmer as he's seems too 'showy'.

Having said all that, there's a vast amount of material to be tapped into and I'd like to see this become an annual or maybe bi annual event but it needs attention.

Thank you for holding back Mick @Newportnobby until now! Having now read a couple of reviews, it would appear that the vocal performance by Gruff Rhys was very poor on the Jethro Tull songs - so were probably edited out. Jane Weaver was poor especially on "Northern Lights". I am not a fan of Guy Garvey anyway but he didn't impress either, "The Staves" OK one was better than the other. Vanessa Haynes was one of the few the highlights. Hats off to the lead flautist though - a very busy prom for her.

Perhaps they need Jules Buckley or Sir Simon Rattle to add some zing!

An interesting live album by Genesis, who apparently were not keen on its release at the time. It was however a good seller partly because of its budget price as well as having a good selection of early tracks on it - none of which featured on 1977s "Seconds Out".

My first introduction to Genesis was the track "In the Beginning" which appeared on the Decca/Deram sampler "Wowie Zowie". The track was taken from their first album "Genesis to Revelation" (1969) produced by Jonathan King and was not great - selling just 649 copies. Amazingly, the album has now just been released in a 5-CD box set, 2 CD set, and 2 LP set with a bonus EP by Cherry Red Records - really! Here is that aforementioned track...


For me, Genesis stepped up a gear when Peter Gabriel left and "A Trick of the Tail" was released. I have various albums covering their phases and reinventions but never a huge fan throughout. Thanks for posting Mick @Newportnobby .

I have some dozen Genesis albums and also rate Trick of the Tail as one of the best

Very Unusually for me I've been listening to a compilation of mine today featuring a selection of my favourite late 60s to early 70s music - the sort of thing I listened to as a teenager. I listen to this compilation about twice a year.

Genesis do not appear in that selection.

I was never a huge fan although I thought  Foxtrot and Nursery Cryme (both of which I bought) were, at the time, reasonably good. I never did think much of Peter Gabriel and all that theatrical stuff which, to me back then, detracted from the music.

Strangely, I never saw them live but then again I probably didn't go out of my way.

I did purchase Selling England by the Pound but quickly sold it again and after that I rather lost interest.

Sorry - for me it's a bit of a thumbs down for Genesis.

Genesis at their very best (IMO)...
