Yes, I had the single as well Mick @Newportnobby . You have inspired me to rack my brains to compile a list of singles that I had (not many) before I started buying LPs.

I too had few singles but my first two LPs were :

Renaissance (the original band) - self titled album.

Fleetwood Mac - Then Play On.

My first single (1969) was Breakaway by the Beachboys.

Interesting Martin @port perran , that's a nice first LP to have, not familiar with the Fleetwood Mac. Beachboys eh!

Here is my list of singles (fresh off the press):

Tim's Singles list - Circa 1970(13yo) to 1972(15yo)

1.   Amen Corner – If Paradise was Half as Nice?
2.   The Beatles – Eleanor Rigby?
3.   Black Sabbath – Paranoid
4.   Blue Mink – Melting Pot?
5.   The Byrds – Turn, Turn, Turn
6.   CCS – Whole Lotta Love
7.   CCS – Tap Turns on the Water
8.   Creedance Clearwater Revival – Up Around the Bend
9.   Curved Air – Back Street Love
10.   Deep Purple – Black Knight
11.   Deep Purple – Strange Kind of Woman
12.   Deep Purple – Fireball
13.   Family – The Weaver's Answer
14.   Frijid Pink – House of the Rising Sun
15.   Norman Greenbaum – Spirit in the Sky
16.   George Harrison – My Sweet Lord
17.   Hawkwind – Silver Machine
18.   Jethro Tull – The Witches Promise
19.   The Kinks – Lola?
20.   Matthew's Southern Comfort – Woodstock
21.   Mr Bloe – Grooving with Mr Bloe
22.   Simon and Garfunkel – Bridge over Troubled Waters
23.   Three Dog Night – Mama Told me not to Come?
24.   Traffic – 40 Thousand Headmen?
25.   Waldo de Los Rios – Mozart 40

I had a plastic singles "album" which I think contained about 20 singles. My cousin told me I was silly buying singles so by 1972 I was buying LPs with the odd exception. Those marked with an ? I cannot be 100% sure of.

My first single was Frijid Pink - House of the Rising Sun and LP Nicky Thomas "Love of the Common People", I think the second was Simon and Garfunkel's "Sounds of Silence"... Then I discovered Black Sabbath...

Some good ones there Tim and all of an age.
I really liked most of those especially Mr Bloe (which is still on a couple of my playlists), Norman Greenbaum and Frijid Pink's version of House of the Rising Sun.

Great memories of the Friday evening Youth Club.

Fun! Good idea.

@Moonglum  - I'm a big fan of that list!

I'm just old enough to play along during the first death of vinyl.

Singles: 1980-1985 (6 to 11 years old)

1 - Prince - When Doves Cry
2 - Hall and Oats - Say It Isn't So/Kiss on My List
3 - Kenny and Dolly - Islands in the Stream
4 - Billy Joel - Uptown Girl
5 - Pointer Sisters - I'm So Excited
6 - Alabama - Lovin' Man
7 - Alabama - Mountain Music
8 - Vangelis - Chariots of Fire (Which I have yet to see but it's in my playlist and with me being a huge Track and Field nut)
9 - Stevie Wonder - I Just Called to Say I Love You
10 - Styx - Mr. Roboto
11 - USA for Africa - We Are the World (The biggest thing to happen to us 10 year olds!)
12 - Culture Club - Karma Chameleon
13 - Oak Ridge Boys - Bobbie Sue
14 - Bobby Goldsboro - Watching Scotty Grow (My mom's favorite)
15 - Rogers/Carnes/Ingram - What About Me?
16 - Kenny/Easton - We've Got Tonight
17 - Eddie Murphy - Party All the Time (Really, young Scott?)
18 - Queen - Another One Bites the Dust/Keep Yourself Alive (Proto-Scott's getting a taste for the heavy stuff!)
19 - Hall & Oats - I Can't Go For That
20 - Sheena Easton - Strut ("sigh" Sheena...)
Spend as little as possible on what you need so you can spend as much as possible on what you want.

Well done Scott @scottmitchell74 for joining in! The sad thing is I can recall most of your list (and you were just a nipper then) but totally clueless with todays pop music. Coincidently, I watched Ridley Scott's "Bladerunner" last night with Vangelis's evoking soundtrack (Dick Morrisey on sax).

Newportnobby

Likewise. You could watch it again tonight BBC4 22.00 ;)
I have over 100 singles so too many to list but I'll look out some faves/oddities

Yes, it is on BBC iPlayer but is it the same version being shown tonight - Ridley Scott's director's cut which dropped Harrison Ford's voice over and changed the ending. At the time, it was way ahead of it's time! I will record tonights version and see.

Fun fact 1: My mother-in-law worked at the Labs at Denham and often spoke to Ridley Scott when he used to make adverts!

Fun fact 2: My late father-in-law worked on Alien (uncredited) and Aliens (also uncredited).

I feel that I'm missing out as I don't do films. I have no interest in them whatsoever.  Never have.

Mrs PP is a big film fan but I lose interest after about ten minutes.

I'm a few years older than Scott and my early 7" singles years (1980 - 1982) included everything by The Specials, The Selecter, The Beat, Madness, The Bodysnatchers, Bad Manners, quite a few by UB40 up to One In Ten, Cars by Gary Numan, Working for the Yankee Dollar by The Skids, amongst others. After that time I moved towards bands like Blancmange, Human League, OMD, Japan, Soft Cell, Simple Minds, Big Country, then went Batcaver/Goth with people like Specimen, Marc & the Mambas, Bauhaus, etc.
I grew up in a musical house, my brother was into prog in the 70s, and bought huge numbers of singles to be a school disco DJ. My eldest sister was into The Police, Genesis, Bowie, Elton John. My other sister was into 2-Tone, then Adam & The Ants but then took me with her into New Romantics and then Goth.

You guys have great memory. I can only remember a few. The one that sticks out is Shannon by Henry Gross. Then it's Bread, ELO, Doobie Brothers, Kansas for the most part. The rest would be Hawaiian stuff like Kalapana, Cecilio and Kapono, Olomana.

And then the disco phase, then Journey rolled through.

Newportnobby

Just a wee glimpse into some of my 45s

Argent
Black Sabbath x 2
Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band x 3
Alice Cooper x 3
Crosby, Stills and Nash
Curved Air
Fleetwood Mac (early) x 3
Free x 4
Genesis x 4
Jethro Tull x 2
Love Sculpture
Led Zep
Nazareth x 3
Gerry Rafferty x 3
Strawbs x 2
Cat Stevens x 4
Tourists x 2
Who x 3

There's an awful lot of New Romantic and synth stuff I like but it's mostly compilation CDs
Music was never appealing thereafter apart from the odd release

kusojiji

Speaking of Kalapana. I think this is the only one with no lyrics. I remember seeing the 8-track tape in my cousin's car.

And one of the most iconic (in Hawaii). I think everybody of my era knows this song by heart. Many slow dances and probably babies came out of this.
