Well........someone had to start a thread about it.

As many will know, I'm a big football fan travelling up to Bristol from Devon to see my team play virtually all of their home matches.
I've watching them for nigh on 62 years now and thoroughly enjoy every match.

However, this World Cup is leaving me completely cold.

Is it because it's in the USA/Mexico/Canada all countries, with the exception of Mexico, where football is not considered a major sport.

Is it because the matches are at inconvenient times?

Is it because there is too much football on the TV?

Are there other reasons?

I won't be going out of my way to watch any of it I'm afraid.
Do others share my lack of enthusiasm ?

I heard last night some England fans will have a 4 hour flight to one game.
I can't wait to see how the Yanks will cope with a plane full of :censored: (changed by forum) drunken England or Scotland yob fans. The poor aircrew won't know what's hit them

It's a big continent with just 3 countries, so 4 hours is nothing.

God help any fans who misbehave in the current climate, the American justice system at the best of times is nothing if not punitive and vindictive.

I realise 4 hours is nothing over there, but it will be with that lot aboard it.
I hope they get short shrift

In short, yes! I find football mind-numbingly boring. I definitely used to be the odd-one-out in the office who didn't join in the discussions about 'their' team on a Monday morning. I shall have more exciting things to do over the next God knows how many weeks, like weeding the garden and cleaning the cooker...

I hope the rest of youse enjoy it. Wake me up when it's all over...

Cheers,

Chris

May I quote Ms Meg Ryan?

Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes!

The World Cup is a bore-fest on a par with Wimbledon (the tennis, not the place) and the Olympics.

Like @Papyrus I was the odd one man out. So, at that chat-time before meetings 'What did you think about the game last night?', I'd join the lovely ladies for a bit of intelligent conversation.

But ... thank goodness all these chaps are nuts about football because it means they're not competing with me to bid for SPAM-able* models.

If you like football, I hope you enjoy it.

The Table-Top Railway is an attempt to create, in British 'N' gauge,  a 'semi-scenic' railway in the old-fashioned style, reminiscent of the layouts of the 1930s to the 1950s.

I'm also a big football fan, but am less than inspired by this World Cup. It is way too financially driven, fans are getting ripped off to attend (if they can afford it), the players have to deal with hot conditions due to time of year, Infantino strikes me as more corrupt than Blatter, and of course the peace-medal winning Orange man baby is refusing to let people in, as well as be in at war with one of the nations attending.

Way too political and financially led. I'll still see how England get on but no more.....

For all the reasons given by everyone else and because I feel this tournament has been hijacked and politicised I have absolutely no interest whatsoever in it and given the unashamed profiteering (that seems to be backfiring) I will shed no tears if it turns out to be a commercial failure.

I can't stand football (sorry) but am in Toronto as we speak and the first game here is kicking off in 40 minutes.  We're waiting to leave this evening until 10pm and avoiding downtown like the plague (although my Daughter's last performance venue is pretty close).  I had to take a 6am flight booking home tomorrow morning and stuff is booked up and over priced like crazy so I have to leave my airport hotel at 3:45am, and then I have to navigate Vancouver ANOTHER  :censored: FIFA city.

Not impressed, Mexico and the US can have the whole thing as far as I'm concerned.  And don't get me started on hotel prices (I have no choice but to get a hotel in Vancouver next weekend so I can get my girl from the airport).  The closest thing I could find that I could afford was 20km from the airport and I'll have to drive right through the middle of Vancouver to get to the airport.

Sorry about the rant, hot and bothered and full of fifa loathing right now! (31C and a humidex of high 30s doesn't help either!)

I Need to get home to my trains!
