Quote from: Moonglum on May 07, 2026, 09:33:57 PMI am afraid that ELO feature in my top ten list of bands that I just didn't get!

Anyway, here is something that Mick @Newportnobby probably will not like and Martin @port perran probably will. New to me...

Great voice and cover.

Tim

PS as Frank Zappa once said "Jazz is not dead it just smells a bit"
Very nice Tim @Moonglum and new to me too.

I've never heard that Frank Zappa quote before.

Manfred Mann - wrapped up like a douche?

I've often wondered about that too so I asked Mr Google :

The famous, widely misheard lyric is actually "revved up like a deuce" (referencing a 1932 Ford "deuce coupe"), but it famously sounds like "wrapped up like a douche".

kusojiji

My all time favorite song from '74. Kept hearing it on the radio, but never knew the name or the singer. Finally found out who in '85.

Incidentally, and it's just occurred to me that the Beach Boys also had a very famous song about a deuce coupe.

Martin @port perran , FZ will frowning down on me as I misquoted him, he actually said "Jazz is not dead, it just smells funny". IIRC he said it in the introduction to "Be Bop Tango" from the "Roxy and Elsewhere" live album.

I don't recall listening to much Manfred Man but "Blinded by the Light" is a good "un" @kusojiji .

Newportnobby

@Moonglum Love the Zappa quote but not, as you said, the tune shown

@kusojiji I'm OK with ELO in small doeses. If you want lyrical oddities try...........

What song is that? All I see is video not available.

Newportnobby

There's a whole lot of them. If you can't see it from my post, check it out on YouTube

This popped up as a suggestion on Spotify this morning and rather caught my eye, or should it be ear.

It's pretty certain not to appeal to everyone - a sort of Middle Eastern/African jazz fusion ensemble.

Spend as little as possible on what you need so you can spend as much as possible on what you want.

Sorry @kusojiji Looking Glass does nothing for me I'm afraid.

Currently listening to a compilation album put together as a tribute to a former band-mate and friend who passed recently.  We played in a goth-rock-ish band back in the 1990s.  More recently he'd been performing electronic pieces locally.

The album includes one of our old live tracks, one of his recent pieces and a whole bunch of stuff from friends, other local bands and some international artists.  Vary varied :)
