My left eye tends to look to the right my previous optician used to include a correction for this, I changed to a cheaper one located in Tescos who didn't notice it, when I put on the new glasses and started to drive home I was seeing two white lines that crossed in the middle of the road. Hastily stopped and put on my "old" glasses. Next day went back to Tescos and  confronted the culprit he was somewhat perturbed and took the offending specs to rectify his error; got a few quid knocked off.
Since then I've had a cataract op on that eye following which they found I have macular degeneration the left eye, which manifests itself as a gradually worsening of sight in that eye, if I look at what I have just written with the left eye I see a large black blob in the middle with the lines above and below it blurred and distorted. Sort of mucks up doing any close work!

Mike, have you tried doing close-up work with an eye patch over the left eye ?

Young lad went to the optician's. She asked him to cover his left eye with his right hand and read the chart, but he covered his right eye with his left hand. So she asked him to cover his left eye with his left hand and he got that wrong as well. In exasperation she went into the kitchen, got an empty cereal packet, cut two holes in it, came back and stuck it over his head whereupon he burst into tears.
"What's up?" she asked
Lad said "I wanted some tortoiseshell ones like my brother"

Talking of such things I'm going to have my first cataract surgery on Saturday. It's come at a bit of an awkward time really for various reasons but the sooner I get it done the better. I can just pass the number plate test but I wouldn't want it to get any worse.

Cheers,

Chris

Friend Rob had his second eye cataract done yesterday. I was told by the optician I have early signs of them but they'll review that next year. Seems most folk over 59 can get them any time after that age.

Boots opticians told me I had the beginnings two years ago. Last year, they said there was no sign. The difference? I used eye drops before I went in last year because of my hayfever....
