Quote from: Moonglum on March 31, 2025, 09:16:23 PMThat's rather pleasant Martin @port perran . I am not sure that I would have guessed who it was (despite the forward bass)!

I have been toying with posting this band from San Francisco for a few days now. During the mid 70's they become well known for their way over the top live shows - captured brilliantly on "What Do You Want From Live" recorded at the Hammersmith Odeon in 1977. Sadly, things went a bit down hill after that for them and were dropped by A&M. So here from their fourth studio album "Remote Control" is The Tubes with "Prime Time" featuring the late and lovely Re Styles on vocals...

The album was produced by Todd Rundgren and is a far cry from "White Punks on Dope". We had tickets to see The Tubes but on the tour Fee Waybill fell off the stage (complete with a chain saw) during a rendition of "I Saw Her Standing There" and broke his leg so that was that...

Thanks Tim
I was aware of The Tubes from way back but haven't listened to them for years.
Prime Time is pretty good. I'll listen to a bit more later but can remember rather liking She's A Beauty.
I'm sure I'll get used to cream first soon.

Bealman

Vision over visibility. Bono, U2.

Martin, @port perran , The Tubes were actually very good musicians, both the drummer and keyboard player had good careers outside of the The Tubes. I had several of their albums on vinyl but thought they were at their best live! Here is a reminder...

Again with Fee and Re on vocals on the third number...

The Tubes left me cold, sad to say, but I did enjoy the Chris Squire track - early 'Camelesque'

Newportnobby

For no particular reason I hit a seam of R.E.M. today, mostly the album 'Automatic for the People' but also this track I really like from the album 'Accelerate'

Newportnobby

Chilling to some Brian Eno. You may recognise the toon as it has been used in many an advert

Moonglum

Very ethereal Mick, the very first band I ever saw live was Roxy Music (supporting Alice Cooper) at the Empire Pool, Wembley on 30 June 1972, I was only just 15!

This was played tonight on Planet Rock, I don't think I have heard Ted Nugent before but this stands out (great bass line)...

Cheers,

Tim

Newportnobby

I enjoyed that, Tim. R & B as it should be.
Sadly, the rest of that Brian Eno album is pretty self indulgent balderdash :(

Bob Tidbury

I will give you 2 guesses as to what I will be listening to this morning after my breakfast .
Sorry no prizes though .

There is a rumour that it will be Rumer!

Greygreaser

YouTube stream- Wynton Marsalis 'South African Songbook' it's a fascinating mix of rhythms and themes with some exceptional 'solos' - not everybody's palette but played at the highest level of jazz musicianship
A jack of all trades is a master of none, but often times better than a master of one.

That's a nice mellow track from Brian Eno @Newportnobby .
Ted Nugent is someone I never took to but I quite enjoyed Stranglehold @Moonglum .
@Bob Tidbury yes it would, of course, be Rumer.
@Greygreaser, I'm a big fan of Wynton Marsalis.

Now here's a little track everyone knows from way back but I just love the vocals :
I'm sure I'll get used to cream first soon.

Often mentioned and frequently on my turntable (musical one, that is)
