Batteries... Don't they just pop open that little plastic door in your back and put fresh AAs in, like my Buzz Lightyear?

£20,000? They must be following the Kimbolted thread and want to see it finished.

All told it's scary stuff and you're a bit of a trooper. Glad to hear they are happy with you. Good luck with the DVLA business.

Great news Mick, August will come fast enough for you to drive, shame they could not fit you with rechargeable batteries then you could just plug your self into the mains lol.

Well done, Mick.

Always good to hear that 'The Man' doesn't want to see you again!

Re new batteries: Why don't you ask to have fitted one of those connectors like they use for electric cars but a bit smaller perhaps. Better still, a USB socket so you can recharge while surfing the forum!  :D

Good luck with the no driving thing - a real PITA.

That's good news nice to hear somebody is doing well for a change all the best

On the implant I am afraid that at the end of the day somebody has to pay to remove it before cremation uit they might want it back!

I've often heard you could raise the roof  :D and if you're gonna go, go out with a bang. Good luck to you.  :beers:

Don't worry Mick, they do remove pacemakers before they screw the lid Down. There are 2 reasons for this...1 they don't like it when the customer starts knocking on the inside of the lid...2 they don't like loud noises to interrupt the ceremony.
The years have been good to me, it was the weekends that did the damage.

Latest Update 27.5.16
I saw the defibrillator implant consultant this morning at Blackpool hospital and was told he was signing me off and back to the guy in cardiology at Chorley. It took me a while to get over to him what I needed from him to ensure the soonest retrieval of my driving licence but, basically, as the 6 months since the implant isn't up until 6th August, he can't fill out any form for the DVLA but told me I could, in effect, send in my forms now. I just want to ensure that, given the OK by him, the DVLA then don't take 6 weeks to do their bit as that would mean no licence until mid September and I have places to go/people to see. Believe me, I'll be pestering him!

I then saw the defibrillator team who supplied me with a 'black box' which automatically  takes readings from the implant and sends them to Blackpool via a USB Dongle. They recommended I send them the data a week before the 6th August but said that provided the implant did not give me a shock the consultant should just rubber stamp the papers. I asked about the implant's battery and was informed the lifespan of the battery was 6-8 years and then it would require a minor operation under a local anaesthetic to take out the unit and replace the battery, hopefully in/out of hospital the same day.

I am entering my third week of physiotherapy at the local leisure centre (Tuesdays & Thursdays at 8 – 9 a.m.) and am enjoying it immensely. Happily a new chap joined yesterday who had a defibrillator implanted a month before me so I'll be able to track how he gets on with his licence.

I do get chest pains but it's not anything to do with my heart. I think that as I'm exercising more than I've done for years it's putting undue strain on my sternum which, of course, was sawn in twain for my heart operation. Add to that the sternum is calcifying over the metal wires holding everything in place.

Life without the use of a car is still very humdrum and frustrating but I'm starting to worry less and less that I might have a heart attack at any moment although any 'twinge' in the heart area does me no good at all. At least I don't cringe at some of the stuff in 'Holby City' any more!

Thanks for reading this.

Glad things are going in the right direction NPN - long may they continue to do so  :beers:

Good to hear things are heading in the right direction for you. Hopefully the license will be back as expected.

Just looked at today's date and it will be 2 years ago tomorrow that I had stents fitted in the old ticker. I'd had a heart attack 8 days earlier, and thought the pain I woke up with was due to sleeping awkwardly. Unaware of a heart attack I drove to my GPs, but about my arthritic knees. Anything else he asked, to which I replied "well, I woke up some days back with a lot of pain in my shoulder/upper chest area. An ECG revealed a heart attack had indeed occurred. Straight into Truro hospital, aspirin drip to thin the blood, and stents fitted next morning. Chatting to my surgeon he said that in his opinion you can inherit certain factors that can play a part in your chances of a heart attack. This he said is why some can eat fatty/high cholesterol foods with little or no effect.

I consider myself very fortunate to have woken, because some 60% who have a heart attack in the early hours fail to wake. Nowadays I have nowhere near the energy and get up and go I previously had, and tire quickly. However, I try to enjoy days to the full and do what I want to do, trying not to put things off to "another day"  So guys, if you get some pain as I did then get it checked out !!!  ( I never had any nurses bouncing on my chest....drat)

Glad things appear to be progressing well Mick.
I'm sure I'll get used to cream first soon.

Caz

Great news and August will be here before you realise it Mick and then you will be free again.      Hopefully the meds I'm on will hold such an operation at bay for a while as I'd be completely lost without my car here.
