A question for married men - how did you celebrate your last days of Freedom?

I finally got married in 1974 (the year ABBA won the Eurovision song contest with the song "Waterloo"), when I was 31 years old, and I remember well how I celebrated the last few days of my freedom as a happy go lucky bachelor.

My Stag party co-incided with my future wife's Hen Party and although it wasn't planned we both ended up in the same Pub at the end of the night -the Royal Oak in the centre of Chorley.

Although both I and my wife can both take our drink - I ended up taking my fiancee home that night as the girls she was with had mixed her all sorts of "cocktails" which she had been forced to drink, and made her unwell, wheras I had stuck mainly to Beer and was quite "merry" but by no means totally drunk.

I don't precisely remember what happened when I got my future wife to her parents home (where she was then living), but have a feeling we both collapsed onto her Mother's bed when we got there, and slept part, if not all of the night together there.

It was a couple of days before we were actually getting married in a local Church, so we both had plenty of time to sober up and make ourselves presentable for the Service, but it was the begining of January and was very cold with snow on the ground.

That is nearly 42 years ago now, but I remember it as though it was yesterday, and immediately after the Wedding reception, after a night spent in a Manchester Airport Hotel, we then flew to Torremolinos where we spent our Honeymoon.

We both liked Spain, and had holidayed there before in 1973, and that probably influenced our decision to Emigrate to Tenerife when we did in 2004.

If you too are a married man (or woman), can you remember how you spent your last nights of "Freedom", and what you did on your "Stag/Hen" night?

Didn't have a stag night as such. Got married in Cirencester at the big church in the market place and spent the last night having a quiet beer or two with my dentist (who happened to be my best man).
After the ceremony my wife & I caught the train to Paddington then from Kings X to Edinburgh by sleeper. The only happening of note was waking up in Doncaster (both starkers and on top of the blankets) to find the blinds had gone up en route.

Can't remember that far back, bad enough remembering how many years ago it was, 5 grandchildren later all I remember is the day of my anniversary.

No stag night here either, I've always thought that if you feel the need to "celebrate your freedom" then you shouldn't be getting married at all ;)

As for anything else relating to that time I've tried my best to erase all memory of it!  :(

The night before Marion and I spent cuddled up together (fully dressed!!) planning our lives together. Nothing more than that.
I don't drink, she behaves like an alcoholic sometimes (well, a small white wine over lunch on very rare occasions actually) and we celebrated not the end of single life but the beginnings of a lovely life together.

Yup, there are consequences  :)

When we got married (4 or 5 years ago I think) we never told anyone it was happening so I didn't get to have a stag night. Well, not until the following year anyway when 18 of us spent the weekend in Salisbury. Played golf on Friday, karting and laser quest type thing on Saturday, loads of beer drunk on both days/nights. Stayed in the Wetherspoons hotel both nights. We know how to live eh?!?

Ps, I had 5 broken ribs at the time so had to abstain from the karting but copious amounts of alcohol and Tramadol kept me going

I spent three days driving my four wheel drive through the Empty Quarter of the UAE - I lived in Abu Dhabi at the time.

If it took three days to drive through then either it was a very slow vehicle or a very big town....

yes, I know, hat, coat, taxi..... :goodbye:

It's the largest purely sand desert in the world....

To give an idea of scale, the road from Arada to Hameem is about 120km.....

We travelled through the dunes - south-west from Madinet Zayed (just to the north of the top of this image) to the E15 road, then once we got to Arada to refuel back into the desert and across to Hameem through the dunes near the border with Saudi Arabia.

I was coming up to the end of a ten year stretch but it was increased to life so I walked round the yard for an hour and then went back to the cell  :D

Seriously, like Trainfish, didn't tell anyone except 2 great friends who were witnesses and sworn to secrecy.

Had a lovely day with them. It was only in June so when everyone knows (besides you lot) might have a post marriage stag.

We're to afraid too tell her mother and my sister at the moment  :worried:

Keep stum  ;)
