A handy side effect is that the Germans are late down to the pool this morning...

The Dutch might be late down tomorrow... 8)

Well from my viewpoint here in Aus, have tipped Netherlands in our local tipping comp, so I'd like to see them win and have European final.

IMO it needed to happen. The Brazilians were far too smug in thinking (a) they were good enough (b) they're the home nation so will win and (c) completely underestimating the opposition. Maybe now they'll not base a team around 2 players ::)
You can use whatever words you like - destruction, annihilation, humiliation etc but I did feel some sympathy for their fans who, like the team, believed they were invincible but had the excellent good grace to applaud the German team in appreciation of good football.
I doubt we'll see the likes of that scoreline between two 'top' teams in the rest of my lifetime

Bealman

Agreed. Certainly different!

They had it coming as Mick said, not a good side or even good individual performances.  Germany have been a team throughout the tournament which makes them a real danger.  Argentina are all about Messi and the Dutch are all about Roben diving when he can.
Germany are the most complete side but I do have concerns re their center backs mobility.
Tonight will probably be about Messi trying to avoid Vlaar and Robben & Kuyt getting into the box and falling over!

DesertHound

Yup, the Flying Dutchman will be at it again tonight I'm sure - absolutely pathetic.

Ah well, there goes me hopes of an all-European final! I always reckon it weird when it comes down to penalties.... makes me think what was all that stuff over the last couple of hours for? Could have just done it like that to begin with and got it over and done with! Still, there's always the viewpoint that it means it was an interesting and close match when it all boils down to that.

A fair result, in my eyes, between 2 teams more determined not to lose than to win :hmmm:
I think the Argentine defence probably played their best game in this tournament last night and the Dutch just didn't really have the key to unlock it.

I think you hit the nail right on the head with your comments.
Only hope the Final on Sunday is something worth watching.

Won't know what to do with myself next week with no more football, will have to do some more work on my layout, or wash the car, or spend more time at the Pool, and read in bed at night rather than watch a late Match!

Ah, I get your sentiments completely Mr Bealman - just imagine, if we cut to the chase and just had penalties we could have the whole World Cup in an afternoon!

As for late matches Tdm - last night's finished at 3am for me! I was itching for anyone to score ... given that I had to be up at 6.40am.

It was even worse during the group stages, with games going on until 4am!

Looking fwd to Sunday though! Don't forget the third place play-off on Saturday!

Still too much going on sport-wise - Test Match series v India and the Tour de France.
Jeez, those cyclists are such athletes! Let's just hope there's no substance abuse this year ::)
Shame the good old days of taking a portable TV into the garden and watching out there have gone - not everything digital is for the better

Geoff

With Argentina in the final I wonder if they have booked the hand of god to turn up, no doubt they will be outclassed by the Germans.

Can't you take the receiver out there too? Cannot see why it wouldn't work. You might just need to get an extension cable, but then you need that for the tv anyway. Might also need an extension cable if you have cable tv or satellite.

It's a bit like saying DCC only requires 2 wires

Hey, they were in Yorkshire ... you just know they would have been main-lining curd tart & Wensleydale ...
