Nature of the beast when you're a chav making tens or thousands of pounds a week.

:smiley-laughing: :smiley-laughing: :smiley-laughing: don't know if that was a typo, but I love it! Couldn't have put it better myself, "if they were making tens OR thousands of pounds a week."

A typo I'm afraid,  you couldn't get in or out of a nightclub
on tens per week.

Swindon v Arsenal League Cup Final March 15th 1969, 3-1 to Swindon after extra time. Sorry but we haven't won much so I like to get that one in when I can  :D

I agree regarding the Premiership, I believe it will implode one day. Maybe you can help it along and stop buying those shirts with white sleeves  :-\

Fair comment on the population of Uruguay Dan but we still don't have a right to be better than them. Uruguay according to Wikipedia actually only had 3,369,000 population in 2010, Italy 60,782,668 estimated last year so more than England, 53,012,456 in 2011.

I can kind of see where you're coming from regarding the attitudes of some top players but do you not think that could be a 2 way thing? I've seen and heard some of the abuse so called fans hurl at some of these players and if I was them I may try to shut it out at times too, especially just before a game when I'm getting off the team bus. Maybe the fans should back off and the players will become more approachable? We'll never know unless we try.

Thanks for the reasoned response but I'm afraid all the beer has now gone  :worried:

Agrippa, I don't have time to join the Farish v Dapol debate I'm afraid, too much going on here. As for Gerrard, yes. I believe it is time he moved on from the national team. He's 34 now and I think we've seen his best. I've also just realised I'm almost old enough to legally be his father. I'm pretty sure I'm not though!

Arsenal haven't won much in the last ten years either come to think of it Trainfish  :D

I'd love one of the old JVC shirts, was having a discussion recently on whether you could get the "classics". I only have one arsenal shirt - it stays in the cupboard and comes out on match days - it's strictly indoor attire!

Those population stats seem a bit off, are you sure you've got them the right way around? I'm only going off what the tv chappie said about Uruguay the other day, as for England I realise I've just made the cardinal sin ... I've quoted a figure for the UK ... doh!

Yup, agree that the fans are worse than the players in most instances (probably including Cantona), hence the football shirt is home attire only!

Should really get over to the Farish vs Dapol debate ... then again, I've been mouthing off a bit there too ... I'm starting to see a common denominator  :-X

Righty ho - off to bed! Poor old USA just couldn't hold on for that final 30 seconds. Unfortunately I've a bad feeling going into the game with Germany. Fingers crossed they make it.

Yes, USA were unlucky but they are now the team who I want to win the World Cup seeing as we can't. As for the old shirts try TOFFS. The link will take you directly to the Arsenal shirts including some JVC ones

Trainfish I have just read your epilouge about the Premier league and yes you are right what you say, it is to expensive, and I do like to watch my team on the box and not no more on the terraces its just out of my reach since a certain party took the team over, passionate about football I am passionate about my country I am, but what I do expect is if your sent out to do a job with your country and fail at the first hurdle then you should stand down, I think it will take someone special to take over the national squad, who will it be next that I do not know, if only I had a team near me in the championship I might go, I am enjoying the World cup to a point when our national team play I shout at the TV, we have been out played out classed, and I think when it comes to young players I do not think they are nurtured enough for european games or international games, to much money goes to high profile players in the premier league and not enough money pumped down to the training and bringing up of young players, there seems to be something missing, there needs to be more being done like english youth training centres, cash is key and I am sorry to say it is all being taken by the premier league players, I watch kids play football on the park and I see them being bullied by there trainers which is not right, so many things wrong with the game at the moment.

I am gutted for the USA :( and hope that they get through.

I am convinced the Premier League is the cause of England's failures because of the pressures heaped upon teams and the vast amounts of cash for PL places.

At the top there is pressure on the four or five clubs chasing the title or Champions league who are unlikely to be relegated and pressure on the rest to escape relegation (it only needs a run of bad form for a club in a safe position to be sucked in :worried:).

It is no wonder that some clubs spend irresponsibly on foreign imports rather than take the time to grow English talent for example Man City/Chelsea and QPR/Sunderland/Spurs. Some clubs are not even prepared to give Brit managers more time and the owners of some clubs are not 'fit and proper' in the way that they behave.

As a Southampton fan, I enjoyed our seasons in Div One and the Championship, being out of the national media spotlight and our success was based on developing and blooding players from our academy.

Our 'reward' from developing these players, is having them picked over by the 'big clubs' who want instant success. If the sensationalist media reports are to be believed, we will only have one player left in the team next season :o So sometimes I wonder, why should teams bother to develop their own UK players when the team could be weakened later on?

How many of the PL 'big names' have actually delivered at this World Cup? Only Suarez and Hazard immediately come to mind and yet Clint Dempsey was sold as he did not deliver instant PL success. And PL teams are no longer as dominant in the Champions league either. So I don't even think that the PL is the best league in the world - if it was players would not leave for Madrid etc

I think England's attitude has been summed up this morning by Gerrard being asked by other English players 'how to avoid being picked for England'.
Of course, there'll now be an Inquisition (possibly of the Spanish variety).
As has previously been suggested - pay the players a basic wage and results based bonus and, who knows, we might actually see some improvement :hmmm:
