It's quite effective blasting out at full volume over a good quality PASystem at Ashton Gate.

You need something to keep you awake I suppose  :D

Quote from: port perran on January 10, 2024, 06:26:12 PMHaving said that, and  maybe it's me getting old, but I'm finding Jon Anderson's voice increasingly annoying.

I tend to find the same with 'Rush' nowadays.
Here's one of theirs with an absolutely epic intro

Newportnobby

Rounding off my weekend with some really old 'Thunder'.
Their album 'Back Street Symphony' still holds classics played years later such as 'Dirty Love', 'Don't wait for me' and 'Love walked in'
R & B as it should be played

The Beatles' "Rubber Soul" album, for me their best one.

Every song in a different musical style, great music with no gadgets.

Here Comes the Rain - Magnum's 23rd studio album, and probably their last following the untimely death of guitarist and songwriter Tony Clarkin a few weeks ago, just before it's release  :(
If it moves and shouldn't, duct tape. It it doesn't move and should, WD40...

Just been on You tube to watch Bruce Dickinson`s latest music videos .

I've seen Maiden a few times but never been lucky enough to have been on a plane flown by Bruce Dickinson though.

In April 2024 I will be raising money for Cancer Research UK by doing at least 100 press-ups every day.  Feel free to click on the picture to go to the donations page if you would like to help me to reach my target.

To follow the construction of my layout "Longcroft" from day 1, you'll have to catch the fish below first by clicking on it which isn't difficult right now as it's frozen!

As a 15 year old the second LP I ever bought was the self titled album by Renaissance.
Renaissance featured Keith Relf (ex Yardbirds) on guitar, harmonica and vocals plus his sister Jane on vocals.
The very able Louis Cenammo played bass but, without looking it up, I can't remember the keyboardist or percussionist.
Some of you will be familiar with the fabulous Island from the Bumpers Sampler Album for Island Records.
This track is Kings and Queens and to my mind, portrays early prog rock at its raw best.
It certainly won't be for everyone but here goes :

I'll get round to fixing it drekkly me 'ansome.

Nice one Martin @port perran (AKA Poirot)! I do remember the track "Island" from Bumpers. Renaissance has a very complicated history; so, here goes...

Renaissance (Mk. 1) was formed out of The Yardbirds by Keith Relf (lead vocals and guitar) and Jim McCarty (drums and percussion) in 1969 and were joined by Jane Relf (vocals), John Hawken (keyboards) and Louis Cennamo (bass guitar). Their first album, the self titled "Renaissance", was released in late 1969. The band fell apart during the making of their second album "Illusion". "Illusion" was eventually released in 1977 in the UK with musicians bought in to complete it.

After several personnel changes, Renaissance (Mk. 2) was formed in 1972, based around the talented Annie Haslem, a trained opera singer with a five octave range. This virtually new line-up released some excellent albums including "Turn of the Cards" and "Scheherazade and Other Stories " and had a hit single with "The Northern Lights" but by the end of the 70s was a spent a force and their albums dwindled in sales in the early 80s with key members leaving and a change in musical direction.

Meanwhile, some of the original members of Renaissance (MK. 1) reformed as "Illusion" and released four albums between 1977 and 2001.

Renaissance struggled through the 1980s with personnel changes and two relatively unsuccessful studio albums, leading to disbandment in 1987. Two different offshoots of the band existed at the same time at one period in the mid-1990s. The band re-formed in 1998 to record "Tuscany", which was eventually released in 2001; however, they broke up again the next year. A new iteration of Renaissance, led by Haslam and Dunford, debuted in 2009, and since then the band has continued to record and tour. Dunford died in November 2012. Later, Haslam stated that the band would continue touring. In 2013, they released the studio album Grandine il Vento, re-released the following year under the title Symphony of Light. (Taken from Wikipedia).

Annie Haslem's (American) based Renaissance was still performing in 2022.

I/we first saw Renaissance (Mk. 2) at Brunel University supporting Caravan on 21 February 1975, the first of four times, we were most impressed.

Here is one of my favourite MK. 2 songs - great live...

I've been a long time Renaissance fan and saw the MK2 line up at the De Montfort Hall, Leicester in the 70s. I have the CD albums 'Live at the Carnegie Hall' and 'De Capo' along with some others on cassette
@port perran not heard such a jazzy song from them
@Moonglum Thanks for the history of the band

My favourite track is the live version of 'Ashes are burning'

Moonglum

Yes Mick @Newportnobby , "Ashes are Burning" is a great track, IIRC a glitterball was always used towards the end of the track, supported above the audience. We saw them at the Royal Albert Hall with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (14/10/77) and sat in the front row. In the right light, Annie's dress became quite see through!

Cheers,

Tim
