The section I posted in is literally called General Discussion and includes "Other Hobbies." Sub Titled - "Let us know what else interests you."

Target shooting is a sport practiced in the UK. In fact it is an Olympic sport, so I don't see why it is any more objectionable that any other sport that is from time to time discussed here.

In a country like the USA where firearm possession is extremely commonplace it is desirable that everybody should learn to handle a weapon confidently, if only to apply the safety catch or remove ammunition. The ability to defend oneself against an intruder who is quite likely to be armed is also valuable.

None of this is necessary in the UK of course. We just stab each other instead.

Just to make it clear, I am not advocating liberalising UK gun laws. Nor do I take part in any form of shooting.

I think that before this particular topic spirals any further downhill, it would be helpful if the NGF moderators could look closely at the NGF's Code of Conduct to see if any of its rules have actually been broken by the original post (OP) and/or subsequent posts.

Clearly, the OP has caused (rightly or wrongly) some outcry and complaint as well as some (rightly or wrongly) support. Since the original thread under General Discussion/hobbies has been deleted I can pass no further comment.

It is possible that the Code of Conduct needs to be further updated to deal with this kind of situation. Perhaps @scottmitchell74 could take the time read the section in the Code covering Bullying or Grievances - see Welcome and Introduction.

From a personal point of view, if the opportunity arises, I like to take part in laser pistol shooting, airgun shooting and archery for my enjoyment so therefore in this case I can see both points of view. @Ali Smith has made some reasonable and balanced points.

When I was a young man in the UK with my mates target practice was one of our favourite hobbies.
We called it "darts".

For What It's Worth: I properly used the "Other Hobbies" Section to start discussion about a hobby.

I then used the "Angry Thread" to express my anger at having my innocuous post deleted because of complainers - an incredibly arbitrary and low bar for deleting something.

Absolutely nothing about what I posted was abusive, bullying nor did it violate current rules... unless I missed something.



The pearl clutching over a fun video of my 110# daughter successfully shooting a can of grape soda is frankly both hilarious and, well... pathetic.

Lesson learned! No more glorious examples of our wildly important and coveted 2nd Amendment being expressed.

I will reserve my discussion to trains, baseball, music and random nonsense... and use the angry thread to complain about fragile N Gauge locomotives.

Car manufacturers!

My Skoda Citigo came with a 12 year anti perforation warranty should rust come through from inside the bodywork.

The actual wording is "Free repair of corrosion caused by rust on the bodywork of your vehicle that occurs within twelve years from the start of the warranty. Only corrosion of body panels from the inside to the outside is included in the definition of corrosion caused by rust on the bodywork and covered by the ŠKODA warranty".

It's 9 years old and has now done 28000 miles and the first hint of rust has started to appear around the fuel filler. This is a well known weak spot of the car and has been reported widely.

I visited the local dealership today who were very helpful and could see the issue and are aware of it so duly submitted a warranty claim to Skoda.
 
Nope, that's not corrosion say Skoda so claim rejected. I always thought rust was corrosion.

Unfortunately their response was not unexpected as I have read multiple reports of them doing everything possible to get out of it, regularly claiming you need to provide proof that the inner bodywork was inspected annually by Skoda mechanics despite zero mention of that requirement in the warranty.

If this follows other reports it will take about 6 months minimum and threats of legal action before they make a goodwill gesture if you are lucky.

Of course when they became aware of this issue a good 10 years ago they could have factory fitted plastic liners for the rear arches that would have solved the problem rather than make them an option. Penny pinching all those years ago causing them grief now.

Warranties aren't worth the paper they're written on.
