Might not be the case here but I take all my pics on a phone. Take them in 'landscape' no problem, take them in 'portrait' either upside down or on side. Therefore take them in 'landscape', simples!

How one moves the phone between portrait and landscape matters. If the phone is lying flat when the camera app is opened, it will default to portrait. It is then possible to pick the phone up and rotate it toward landscape without the device registering the change, particularly when the subject lies below the photographer. If one first holds the phone vertically true before rotating, the sensors gain a clear sense of which way is 'up', and the orientation switches reliably.
