“Unread posts” issue

I always used the "show unread posts since last visit" option on the old forum and presume the green "unread posts" button should do the same thing? However, when I press it it normally comes up with "no unread posts since last visit" yet when I go into "show all unread posts" there are recent posts that I have not seen before in there. Am I missing something or is this function not working as it did/should?
