Did anyone watch James May Toy stories Barnstaple to Biddeford by model railway race(admittedly oo gauge). It was entertaining, the Germans won they did increase the voltage to 18v though to get more speed.

Oh that was years ago. Yeah I watched it.  The German team were from Miniatur Wunderland weren't they?

Yes, I saw a while ago (10 years?).  It was very good.  I like James May's style and wonderful wit.  He did another programme about model railways and his reaction to a collector whose most precious models were still sealed in their boxes was brilliant.

PS I saw the new Hornby programme the other evening - a 'TT-120-fest'!  Really good publicity and excellent timing.

Thanks @ntpntpntp  some of the footage was old but it came up as only posted on YouTube a few hours ago. It was the second attempt, the first failed a few years ago. This event there was different types of trains, steam, the Flying Scotsman won, diesel the German one won and experimental I think the Uk one won. Quite good fun.

.... except the sliding/locked 00 Scotsman (Simon's gold-plated-rod model?) at the end did nothing for promoting quality of the models to the public  nor for quality of the program editing

For somebody with very limited knowledge of model railways it would be easy to conclude that OO is currently the smallest commercially available scale and that TT120 is a groundbreaking triumph of miniaturisation.
The narrator's grasp of English wasn't as good as one might have hoped for. More than once she said "haitch" rather than "aitch" and said a word that sounded like a mixture of "miniscule" and "meniscus". I'm sure she meant miniscule, but I would hope for better from somebody who does this for a living.

I agree, a bit misleading but the program is about Hornby, it would be interesting if there was a generic model railway show on the telly, not not modelling challenge, really great idea but too much silly, make something out of an old bog roll , ball point pen etc challenges etc. Much like car programs it's the oily bits/metal fab vs layout building/detail etc the enthusiasts want to see, well in my opinion anyway.
