The sector class 31s look good, IC Mainline especially, though I'm disappointed there's no rolling stock - really need some maroon Thompsons!

once again, I am totally underwhelmed with Farish's latest announcements - no transition coaching stock (again awaiting maroon Thompsons) no steam loco, not even a sound ready retread! I wonder if they are listening to their customers at all. well at least there is Dapol, Rapido, Revolution, Sonic and possibly Union Mills to empty my wallet!

Regards,

Alex

They've just announced maroon Thompsons in OO, so we should be encouraged by that at least!

In answer to my own winge.  The Backman website stoill shows the next Std 5s as arriving c July,  which suggests 20222!   Tmc with whom I have my pre order for a weathered example suggest March/ April 2023.

My initial reaction was being quite underwhelmed. No new tooling, no new rolling stock, not even any re-releases of popular rolling stock in common liveries. All these locos and nothing available for them to haul etc. Same old story for years now.

Then I tried to see it in a different perspective and with a glass half full approach...

Yes, we know that the class 158's and 47's etc are on the way and an update today on liveries etc was expected. However, was I expecting another re-run of class 20's or 31's ahead of the before mentioned? No. Is it a nice bonus to squeeze in? Yes.

31130 in Railfreight Coal livery looks really nice. No fan grill cowling and an off centre headlight will allow this as a good base model to relivery into other examples.

31423 in Intercity Mainline is another model I will buy. It has the fan grill cowling, centre headlight, cab roof pod and ETH pipe.

However, I am baffled as to why 31466 and 31407 were chosen? Only 1 loco in these liveries existed and they only lived for a short amount of time. I don't see them selling out. Why do Farish tend to preference 'one off / niche' liveries over others that were more common, were longer lived and offer a more geographical coverage of operation? Surely a civil engineers (over 40 prototypes) or Regional Railways (5 prototypes) class 31 would have ticked more boxes and encouraged multiple purchases.

I noticed that the OO gauge class 158 was announced in Yorkshire Metro red/cream livery today. Hopefully this option will be added to the 2 liveries currently announced in N.

I wonder if they've taken notice of the numerous posts asking when they are going to deliver pre-announced items and are trying to avoid the 3-5 yr wait we have endured in the recent past.

Bachmann's policy since switching to the quarterly announcements is that everything announcedshould be in the shops within the next four months.

It doesn't always work - the EFE china clay hoppers were very delayed for example.

It also excludes models announced before they switched - like the class 158.

There are also a few models such as the class 90 which are announced a little early, hence it's not with us yet.

That's exactly why they have switched to the quarterly release schedule. Instead of announcing a model at the start of the development process, and then having a wait of several years whilst it works its way through every stage of production, they can now announce, show samples and have them in the shops reasonably soon after.

Of course this won't suit everyone, and there have been complaints it doesn't give people enough notice and time to save, but personally I think it works much better than the old system where you'd be waiting years for updates and result in the model railway equivalent of 'are we there yet'....

I think it is a better system as well.

If you know someone who's depressed, please resolve never to ask them why. Depression isn't a straightforward response to a bad situation; depression just is, like the weather.Try to understand the blackness, lethargy, hopelessness, and loneliness they're going through. Be there for them when they come through the other side. It's hard to be a friend to someone who's depressed, but it is one of the kindest, noblest, and best things you will ever do."

Not Farish, but I waited over 10 yrs from announcement of the Pacer 142 until my pre-order arrived.

A system that doesn't provide basic stuff like wagons or coaches is seriously broken, whether we know they're coming 10 years or 3-months in advance.
