the one thing I have never got my head around about being 'on moderation' is why are posts moderated in such a haphazard way.

as an example, I posted on different subjects at

21:39 yesterday - still awaiting moderation / approval
09:50 today - approved
09:59 today - still awaiting moderation / approval.

I would have thought that posts were moderated in order, I assume there is a 'naughty list' that mods can see need to be approved.

it appears that it may be more a case of pot luck as to when your post gets approved, or not.

I can't see any that need approving, so I guess that they were all done?  A list comes up with all of those that need approving, and we go through them when we can.  When members make more work for us, we're not overly excited in doing that first.

I copied my post to a mod for who I have the utmost respect, and obviously he moderated my posts before you checked.
one was approved, and one not. I can live with that.

we do seem, though, to have developed on this forum a disciplinary procedure where you post, are charged or a complaint made, are tried and sentenced and then get told your sentence.
right to appeal - forget it
right to know why you have been charged - forget that as well.

some seem to be able to post whatever they want, no action taken, others have to obey the rules, without even knowing what they are.

from talking to other members, I get the feeling that I am not the only one feeling this way.

I thoroughly enjoy checking this forum every day, I read some posts with the greatest delight, some which give me info I never had, but some which make me hit the 'back' button because they get right up my nose.

then there is the totally unpolitically correct daily groaner and daily cartoon, which always make me laugh and improve my take on the day.

so, how about people actually using some common sense ... or is that no longer possible.

I don't like the posts in the angry thread  -- don't read them then, if you cannot tell the difference between tongue in cheek and reality, then don't bother.

this forum has so much going for it, but I regret to say that I have noticed an increasingly dominant 'political correctness' creeping in.

it's a fun forum, read what you want, and if you find some threads are not to your liking, then don't read them any more.

When have I said that you can't appeal?  I've always been open with everyone on the forum that they can message me and talk about how they feel, about improvements, and about anything confidential regarding NGF staff - if that arises.  I haven't had any for a long time.

Regarding others being OK to post what they want.....use the report button and state what is wrong with the post in your view.  We can't read every single post, or perhaps you have a different take on a post that we haven't seen.  If you feel that it's still not right, send me a PM with the post in it.

I'm glad that overall you enjoy the forum.  Remember that there are LOTS of different characters here, a handful clash, some get on our nerves.  Myself and the moderators have to keep a fine balance of this, but ultimately, we'll never please everyone.  This is a community, mainly about model railways, with other topics coming up in between about ourselves.  Some things are just best to be kept off of the forum and left in our heads.
