Hmmmm. In the latest NGS Journal I note a review for 6mm spoked wagon wheels and 7mm disc coach wheels from Mathieson Models, and then Rails is also putting a range of Mathieson wagons up for pre-order https://railsofsheffield.com/collections/mathieson

Does this mean that Mathieson Models is back? The NGS Journal article mentions a Mathieson's website however I have been unable to unearth it so far.

BTW - sorry if this is in the wrong section of the NGF - moderators please shift to the right place if so.

Cheers,

Colin.

Not that they're something I'm in need of (though I do have a couple of examples) but I get the impression someone else has taken over the tooling, which is good as it would have been a shame to lose those cute wagons :)

I obviously followed the same path as you, and I didn't get very far either.

@NeMo , could somebody from the NGS look into this and clarify where the information came from and how accurate it is?

Cheers,

Chris

Hi Chris,

I will ask Robin. I'm not sure if he's a member of this forum.

That latest one comes up as an ADULT website on my work's naughty filter.

I didn't think they were those kinds of models  :D

I just clicked that and I got too-too wagons. This is good news - I've always thought those Mathieson wagons look great (I'm not sure that the clear coupling works), and I'd be interested in running a few on the B&CE.

Umm, forgive me, I'm not familiar with them. Do they, did they, just do the one wagon, but with lots of different liveries or have they done other models/types of wagons?

That link works fine for me but PO wagons are somewhat before my era.
Good to see them back for those who want such, though

I've just bought two packs of their replacement spoked wheels off eBay (as it says to do on their website). £2 cheaper than the Farish ones and free P&P.

Only the RCH 1907 "Standard 10 ton Mineral Wagon" design was ever released in around 30 different private-owner liveries, mainly Welsh or Yorkshire coal merchants and collieries. (anything from 25-250 of each)

It was rumoured he had prototypes for another couple of designs, but no others made it to the market.

I'm not an expert on them ('cos they're not Continental), my impression has always been they have a  single wagon design very nicely modelled and issued in quite a few interesting liveries (mostly based on collieries?), some in very very low numbers and quite rare.

I have I think 4 stashed away somewhere, not the most rare ones but just some I thought looked attractive on ebay and not at silly prices.  I'm not a big fan of the transparent Rapido coupling to be honest, I actually think it draws more attention as an unnatural looking thing, rather than the usual and expected plain black/brown coupling. Personal opinion of course.

Same for me as I model the early 1950s.

To the best of my knowledge the P.O. wagons were previously produced with pristine lettering. Some feint and faded/weathered lettering just might attract a wider range of buyers?

Some of their previous wagons have become very collectable, with some eye watering prices attained on flea bay.
