Dannyboy I fully agree with you,
my wife is a Holby fan like Newport Nobby and so she wasnt happy because of all the changes I still think with all the licence fee we pay that the B B C should have at least one channel dedicated to sports , they could record Tennis and football or cricket or whatever sports are on at the same time and put them on later so all sports fans can watch their sport without forcing other non sports fans to turn their TVs off ,
Bob Tidbury

Bob, I couldn't agree with you more - I would love to see a free-to-air (ideally BBC) channel dedicated to sports with good amounts of live (or even recorded) cricket, rugby, football, F1 etc but the reason the BBC or any of the others don't is that they simply don't have enough content.  And without a significant change in government policy that's not going to change any time soon.

Total BBC Income for 2019/20 was £4.9billion (about 70% comes from the licence fee).  The last round of Premier League football TV rights for 2019-22 was around £5billion.  The sums for terrestrial broadcasters don't even begin to add up. Unless a government ring fences more sporting events (eg Premier League and Champions League Football, Test Cricket, Premiership Rugby etc) thus forcing those sports' governing bodies to only sell rights to free to air broadcasters, then we're always going to be left with little more than scraps on BBC, ITV, C4 & C5.   Sporting bodies understandably want to maximise their income potential (or are greedy low-life money grabbing bandits with no interest whatsoever in their broader fan base, depending on your point of view) and no government has shown any inclination whatsoever to challenge this in the last two or three decades.

BBC, ITV, C4 all do a pretty good job with the relatively very limited resources they all have.

I'm purely guessing here but, obviously, at the commencement of Wimbledon there are just so many games to cover that BBC1 and BBC2 are used conjointly. I'm sure as the tournament goes on this will not be the case. I ask this out of ignorance but "Doesn't everyone have the BBC 'Red Button'?" so why is that not used as much as it could be?
Of course, what's the betting come the finals of the Euros it gets shown on BBC and ITV at the same time. The only choice is your pick of the overpaid punters. ::)

Well Holby is ending soon .. permanently...
I just wish they get rid of those overpaid prima donnas on TV.. The ones that kick a round thing and the ones that hit a round thing.

Holby doesn't end until March 2022 so I wouldn't call it soon (it could be a Dapol 'soon' though ;))
Much though I enjoy the cricket I do think maybe the players should concentrate more on the game than their damned designer shades 8)

On a far more upbeat subject, I was reduced to tears yesterday as I watched Mark Cavendish win the 4th stage of the Tour de France. That guy has been through so much adversity, been written off by so many and was only selected at very short notice so it's no wonder he broke down after his win and could hardly speak in the post race interview. I'm not saying the Manx Missile is back but it does show that, given the chance, he can put two fingers up at the nay sayers.
What a ride :beers:

I watched the first half of the Sweden-Ukraine football match on TV yesterday.

Nice to see sunshine in Glasgow :)

The Scots missed a trick though. The city of the venue displayed on the half-way line scrolls between the local spelling and English - hence we've seen Kovnhagen/Copenhagen, Roma/Rome, München/Munich etc. I was waiting for Glaschu/Glasgow, but no such luck.

  It's København.

I used to change planes there almost every week.  ;)

Great to see Cav win the very next sprint in the Tour de France. With all the extra sprint stages this year there is a chance he could beat the record of 34 sprint stage wins (held by Eddie Mercxx).
However, he'll need to be able to survive any of the mountain stages to be in a position to do so :uneasy:

Congrats Ash Barty!

First Aussie woman to win Wimbledon since 1980!

Yeah!

Exactly 50 years since Evonne Goolagong Warley won it in 1971. (She was the 1980 winner too)

I think I'm going to be in trouble today :uneasy:
BBC are showing the second T20 live from 13.50 but have no highlight show later on
Ch4 are showing the British GP live but they do have a highlights prog later on, and ITV4 are showing the Tour de France final stage from 16.00 today and also have a highlights prog later.
Ergo, I'll have to watch the cricket and record the 2 highlights progs later on after ensuring I don't watch any news or read anywhere what any results were. This will also mean the forum, sadly, so I won't be about tonight or tomorrow until I've watched the highlight shows.

Mick,

I could video the cricket for you, from my seat in the Emerald Stand at Headingley. It may be a bit shaky though however, complete with voice over of Sweet Caroline by a dodgy singer.

That's odd, I would have thought I was receiving from the same transmitter as you (Winter Hill) and my EPG says;

British GP live - Channel 4 13:30-18:00
Highlights - Channel 4  23:00-00:05

Tour de France live - ITV4, 16:00-19:00
Highlights - ITV4 21:00-22:00 and also Monday 10:00-11:00

I think Mick @Newportnobby might have been having a 'senior moment', I can not remember the last time ITV showed Formula 1. However, just to check, I looked on my EPG, (Freesat), and the F1 is on Ch4 as stated by Chris.   (What's this Tour de France thingy?  ??? :-X).
David.
I used to be indecisive - now I'm not - I don't think.
