Hi all, a quick question I hope

I am building a small layout to test out computer control, and I need to add resistors to the wheels of some wagons to trigger the block detection.

Most of my rolling stock is Peco so fitted with plastic wheels, so was wondering if the Farish metal wheels which I can buy in packs of ten would fit the Peco chassis, anyone tried, do they fit or not ?

Thanks

Hi, yes the Farish metal wheels will fit Peco chassis. I've done it to many of my Peco wagons. Once you have fitted the Farish axles in, give the axle boxes a light  squeeze either side of the axle points until the wheels spin freely, it helps them run smoothly.

Cheers, Stu

Also just a tip I used. Working on my bench I gave them a simple click in once just to ensure they slotted in and rolled my wheels and axles with a finger then ran the wagons slowly round my layout

I'd stock up if you find some; the 6.2mm "coach wheels" are out of stock everywhere and Bachmann have no idea when they're getting more. The 3-hole and spoked disc (which are 5.5mm diameter IIRC) are more widely available, but that may not last.

Before I order anything I had a go at converting a few of the spare wheel sets I had in my spares box

I actually found the Farish wheels didn't convert very well so looked for something else and found that the Dapol wheels made an excellent conversion, plastic axle which could have a flat scraped on them to help adhere the resistor and full metal wheels giving a nice large area for the conductive paint to adhere to.

Fortunately I found 6 in my box of bits as I don't think Dapol sell their wheels as spares.

Thought this might be useful if someone else was thinking of doing this sort of thing.
