Just wondering????
Am I the only person in the world who doesn't get Facebook??
I have an account but can never get past Page 1  !!!
I have a few "friends" it seems,  but they are people I've never heard of and I really don't want to know that someone has just had a piece of steak for tea !!
I'm sure there must be much, much more to Facebook but I really cannot see it.
Can anyone offer any advice ??
I'm sure I'll get used to cream first soon.

Personally I've never seen the point in Facebook or any of these so called social networking sites. How can someone you've never even met be called a friend?

I don't have a facebook account, won't even entertain having one either.I certainly don't want everyone knowing my own personal business, thats for me to know and no one to find out.

Its the devil.

A colleague of mine was found out by one of the company snoopers for saying stuff about company policy and almost lost his job because of it,it can be used by anyone to find out things about you that are of great detriment to future employment prospects as well.

I know its hugely popular but I think its a monster that will go out of control.

So I for one will give it a miss, same as twitter and whatever else comes along.

Facebook is merely a forum like this one, but with less functionality. It's beloved by journalists who don't know their way around the interweb. I'm on there but my privacy settings are at maximum.

Please can I join the merry band of those who can't see the point of Facebook or the like. I cant work out why people think that collecting "friends" who are "friends of friends" is the way to go and then get ever so upset when they are de-friended.

And people think railway modellers are weird. Give me  :NGAUGE: any day!!

I dont do facebook either, cant be doing with their concept of friends, a friend is somebody you call on when you are up to your neck in the brown stuff at silly oclock in the morning needing help, a "friend" gets out of bed and helps not just reads the post!!!

I am on facebook as I like to have interest in what my kids are up to and this is the place to find out, other than that its a total waste of netspace, I really cant stand it, somebody has made an absolute fortune out of it though!!!!!

I joined Facebook last week so I could see what my two Daughters who live 1700km away were up to, I must be getting old as their conversation goes right over the top of my head, the only thing I understood was a picture of Tweety Pie, I think I will stick with emails or a phone call I can understand them.

Having said that we are all different and some people love Facebook but I think it depends what generation you are from as to how much you get out of it, I think it would be great for clubs and other groups.

I joined up a few months back, but only for the fact I can make FREE videocalls on it to any of my mates 250 miles away in Hastings where I used to live ;D. Very handy it is too, we can even see each others layouts under construction and running, great stuff! Admittedly it's using my parrots name, that way only people that truly know mw can contact me, can't be doing with all the other crap on there though!

Its a great site!!  It is social networking - You can keep in touch with friends or family or groups as you wish BUT just like other social chit chat (when you're out, in the pub etc) dont say anything you dont want repeated....

In Sept 10 I had a disk removed from my spine, I was stuck in the house for 6 weeks, I resorted to an xbox online racing game to keep me occupied, 4 of the people I met on there (and chatted to on the headset) kept me sane for that 6 weeks.  We keep in touch now via facebook as 2 are in Oz, 1 in the South of England and 1 (who is a gorgeous single mum and brilliant racer) lives about 70 miles from me and there is no way SWMBO would ever let me visit personally  :smiley-laughing:

They kept me going through a dark time, we keep in touch now and there are no preconceptions.

And N gauge forum is on there  ;D

I keep in contact with many friends on there, and also long distance family.  I agree it can get you in all kinds of hot water if you're not careful, but just be careful!  :)  I enjoy talking to friends and seeing pictures of their families growing up.

And me, no facebook, no twitter and no smartphone... I do have a mobile, chosen as it comes with a led torch.

Ditto - I have a Blackberry for two reasons: to deal with e-mails without starting up the laptop, and to bid on stuff on Ebay. Never seen the point of Facebook, and even less Twitter. I have no interest in what other people are up to (other than on here  ;) ), or what they think, and I certainly don't want to see pictures of their offspring!!  The late 30's - early 40's set to which I belong seem to have leapt onto Facebook just as much as the teenagers for some reason  ???

If I want to know what my true friends are up to I ring them or e-mail them, if I want to know what my fellow N-gaugers are up to I come on here, everyone else I couldn't give a crap about!  :smiley-laughing:

I avoid facebook - too much snooping and spying and collecting your data for advertisers and who knows what else for me
