The people on the Facebook group can be broken into more of less 3 categories:

1. People who are mostly interested in sharing pictures and in getting feedback on those pictures
2. People who are on both FB and the main forum
3. People who you wouldn't particularly want on the main forum.

That last group is a small set of unpleasant know-it-Alls who are occasionally rude and seldom helpful. ...

I started on FaceBook to keep in touch with my daughter in London. I've recently joined lots of railway groups both model and preserved. I've got FaceBook set up to suit me, lots and lots of railway content and some contact with family and friends.

FaceBook is like the Internet, it's up to you how you use it.

I wish it was as easy to post photos on the Forum as it is on FB.

1)   I don't do farcebook. Oh, I do have an account coz my daughters do. (other family members too). But, I only look on there for pics when they send me links through some other medium.
2)   I think I must be doing something 'wrong'  coz I don't have a problem posting pics on the forum!!! LOL <--- see that? I'm trying to get into the modern, computerish stuff, LOL again.
3)   #couldn't_care_less_if_farcebook_vanished_&_took_TWOOTER_with_it. So there!
"When in trouble, when in doubt, run (trains) in circles..." etc.
There, doesn't that feel better?
Lovely!

I avoid farcebook, I would agree that this forum is the most awkward for posting photos compared to the other 5 forums I use. I'm not saying it's impossible to use just somewhat convoluted, definitely not instinctive. It probably took me a week or so to get used to it, even now if I don't load and images for a few weeks I have to stop and try and remeber how to do it  (memory at 82 is not whaqt it was.) The only site I've come across that was worse for adding images was a Yahoo group.

I find Facebook dire these days, having been a member for 10 years. It's just full of complete rubbish now; adverts and suggestions of irrelevant content, plus friends sharing tosh. I'm not a member of any groups, I find forums good for discussion, and other sources good for photos and videos.

Except it's also how faceache and others use you....as job applicants and employees have learned, not to mention the data harvesting and zuckenberg's weird social experiments.

I was just about to say the same.

I don't like Facebook. I used to have an account but closed it. I felt at risk and that it was just a waste of time. I'll stick with this forum thank you. I enjoy it here.

If I remember correctly, but don't bank on it, go into your preferences and somewhere there is the option to close the account.

My preference is never to open an account but good luck to those who have.

My OP was about why are the members not posting on the main forum their questions and their photo's and videos, they would of had to join the main forum i think wouldn't they or is it like anyone who has a FB account you can like and join any group once you have been accepted to it. I just feel that there are some really great photo's and videos has well as questions put on there that are not the forum, so many of the members of this brilliant forum don't get to see them.

Has for the members who only see a few posts on the FB page, i for one because i have joined the group get at least fifty to one hundred posts on my FB page, so all of them posts are not been seen here.

And those who think posting photo's is hard on here, yes it is i agree but only until you get used to putting them into your own gallery 1st, then it is a simple matter of posting on the thread you want to. I do agree though that it could be made a lot easier has it is on FB.

Has Mito said Bealman, go to your preferences and you can have the option to close your account or block a group or some body from your own account.   Happy Modelling.

Now i must get on with some work on Roedann Viaduct.

:beers: everyone for your comments, keep them coming if you can.... :) :) :)

I was reluctant to join Facebook mainly because of "scare" stories about various downsides. I was careful to sign-up with a disposable email address, chose my password with caution, and did not click on links to unknown places.

I do not use it as a place to share my private life, and I certainly do not use it as a minute to minute window on my world. On the other hand I have joined a number of rail, model, history and transport groups where the information published enhances my hobbies. I agree that as with everywhere "social" on the internet, probably including here from time to time, I come across people who seem to want to start a fight in an empty room. But you meet all sorts, and the warm, helpful and co-operative members outweigh the keyboard warriors 100 to 1. My intention is not to get in the middle of a fight between keyboard warriors, because despite the presence of eyes and brain it seems that their is often a disconnection between the two.

From time to time I post links to this forum on Facebook Groups especially where an issue needs a bit of help like the Revolution Trains Class B wagon project. Sometimes an obscure topic title on here conceals a wealth of valuable information, and is easily missed, although our moderators do there best to get them in the right section.

Going back to the OP, I think N-Gauge-US summed up succinctly the difference between the NGF and the NGF Facebook Group.

I'm of the older generation, the first Computer I ever saw (In 1970) took up two large rooms in the local Technical College.

I joined Facebook to keep in touch with my children and grandchildren.

I post photos and videos on the NGF forum FB pages because it's so much easier than the tortuous routine on the main forum.

I fully understand why people are reluctant to use FB but I'll not be posting many images here until doing so on here is as slick as doing so on FB.

Out of interest how do you tell who's on the forum and the FB group, unless there's a clear link between forum pseudonym and real name?

I am mad enough to allow the same photo on Facebook and the Forum!  And I confirm it is me - albeit taken at a nephew's wedding in July 2014.  Once seen, try and forget!
