Shunters Truck from Osbornes

Just noticed this on Osborns Models latest N gauge page.

Yeah, it's a unique model though rather than just a reprinted truck. Having scratch built my own I'm probably not in the market for one, but the 'rough' engineering prototype already looks better than the PD Marsh kit (although it looks like they've gone for the same shortcut as I did and the PD Marsh kit does and base it on a 9ft chassis instead of an 8ft one).

I thought it was 7' thinking about the one at Barry. I've built the Chris Higgs etched one (which is a thing of beauty) so probably wouldn't replace it - but it's an excellent choice.

The Marsh kit looks a lot better if you take a 10' brake van chassis and a saw and amend it to the correct wheelbase and length then stick it all back together.

Actually, looking at the pics, it does look like it's a short wheelbase, so it's a custom chassis too.

Yep.
I'm almost certain the chassis is a cut-and-shut peco 10ft brake van chassis...

they did a feature on one of these in the Hornby Mag not too long ago. how to stratch build one. but £15 is alot of money for what it is.

Very nice, I remember Maurice was looking into it about a year ago and trying to get the right balance between development costs and final price. Glad to see it looks like he has managed it, I will definitely bet getting one of these.

Looks nice, but just ordered one of the 'kits' from Etched Pixels a few days ago

May get one of these from Osbornes aswell at some point, but until then, I'm sure the kit will be fine.

Strictly speaking those are BR 1960s-80s era 'runner' wagons as used in various locations with 03 and 04 loco because they were getting lost by track circuits due to their short wheelbase (and are simply conflats exactly as per the prototype) whereas the 'shunters truck' as per the Osbornes model is a GWR 1910s-40s vehicle intended for the shunter to ride on and carry his equipment.

Not really shunters wagons but runners.

The shunters wagons are 7ft wheelbase generally and built to several similar patterns. Nothing that can't be replicated cheaply with a brake van chassis a little sawing and a 3D printed top.

A few were 9' wheelbase being conversions of other wagons.
