Where to go for loco repairs

I have a troublesome, split geared class 37 (the newish DC ready, NEM pocketed one) which runs like a sack. I did contact brlines over the summer regarding it's repair but the waiting times put me off. I have since re contacted them but have had no reply. I probably have the eyesight for it but I really don't want to break it, I'd much rather send it somewhere reputable where I know it'll come back working correctly.

So who do you recommend for repairing locomotives?

Try the manufacturer, they are usually very helpful, at least GF and Dapol are to me,

If the loco is under warranty then you should return it to the supplier or manufacturer in accordance with the warranty conditions. If not then can I recomend The Locoshed, 48 Bury Old Road Whitefield M45 8LT who I have used several times in the past. If they can't deal with the problem theselves they will deal with the mnufacturer as they have done with a couple of mine. I have always had excellent service. Whenever I go I have to drive down the M61/M60 but from where you are you can use public transport as they are ony 300yds from Besses o'th Barn Metrolink station or a regular bus service from Manchester City Centre.

I tend to use BR Lines or The Model Railway Doctor personally.  Found both to be excellent although as you say waiting times can be rather long.

Thanks Ron, think I'll drop it into Jim at the Loco Shed as the warranty must have ran out over a year ago.

I can only echo others and say BR Lines are very good. Or should I say, Bob at BR lines is very good as I believe it is just him who does the work.

I sent him a batch of three Poole era locos last year and, as you say long lead time (8 weeks), but all arrived fully functional and exactly on time

I agree I have just had my Dapol 9F and GF Class 47 back running sweetly now, but they were running very badly before Bob worked his magic
