is it worth keeping all the wagon boxes?  for example, HEA or PGA hoppers, they are worth £5 - 6 each, with or without the box so it seems...   so is it worth keeping 35+ boxes for them all?

any thoughts?

Theres a couple of listings for boxes on that auction site we all like and there selling, But I'd keep them for storage or easier to sell at a later date possibly

I have all my rolling stock boxes stored in a bigger box in the loft. It seems sensible to keep them if you can. One day your heirs and successors may need to auction off these valuable antiques from the dawn of railways, and boxes will help...

Only boxes I have kept are the big plastic ones my Class 156s came in, and the Blue Pullman is still kept in the original box. Apart from that all boxes went in the bin, don't intend selling anything and no 'heirs' to do so later either ;)

I think I will just keep boxes if the item is worth more than £10.... so coaches, large wagons, obviously all locos...

it seems daft having a million boxes for HEAs, PGAs etc. etc.

I don't have a loft unfortunately... just a rented one bed flat at the min!

cheers

Hi

I used to keep all my boxes but now bin them except for the Limited Editions.

I have four a sets of twelve drawers with the JB Models foam inserts in for storing my stock. They are about half full at the moment so plenty of room for new purchases  :D

Cheers

I've kept all my empty boxes and store them in one of these;

They're stored in our garage, so that if I decide to sell anything the box it came in can act as some of the protection through the post.
If I buy any more stock though, I'm going to have to get another.

I just keep boxes for the more expensive items.
I'm sure I'll get used to cream first soon.

I tend to keep the boxes but as my fleet and stock builds up I may have to rethink my policy.

I flat pack them, and band them together with rubber bands. The inserts can mostly be nested.

I keep the boxes as I'm sure I'll get a better deal if they're boxed if I ever decide to trade bits in part ex-ing against a new model.

Keep all boxes is my advice to you.

My loco's/wagons are stored out of box pretty much (it takes ages to un-pack!)
But stored safe in foam lined cases for 'easy grab' but all original boxes are stored seperate (in moth proof containers)

Years ahead your collection will be worth loads. They will be worth loads more with original unmarked boxes!!! ;)

I keep loco boxes, and coach boxes, but most wagon boxes I don't- largely because I weather my wagons, and a weathered wagon is worth no more boxed than unboxed....

The nice perspex boxes from my 50-odd Dapol hoppers are very useful storage for small tools, screws, different mixes of ground cover etc etc....

OTOH pristine limited editions live in their boxes to keep them safe, but as I'm not an active collector there are fortunately not too many of those.

All the very best

I keep all of my boxes, I store them in one of these:

My boxes fit comfortably, although not all of my stock came with boxes, and my stock is all on the layout at the moment!

As you are in a one bed flat at present you will probably have to move soon so the boxes will be useful to protect your valuable assets.
