Just a quick one,

To avoid the PO clerk looking at me gone out when say it's a CDU, will this fall foul of the rules royal mail have on certain electrical items. It seems the biggest area for restrictions is batteries.

:thankyousign:

Jack

Don't mention CDU just tell him its model railway stuff.

That's what I would say too. Great idea Jack, I like your way of thinking.

I don't think so, it contains no lithium batteries or supermagnets

I use that 'model railway stuff' thing all the time - but does everyone say it quietly like i do ?  :-[ (to some people model trains just aren't cool anymore... :()

I might be a bit over cautious here, but i'd make sure it's been discharged before sending it off - just in case...
If it's got rails... you have my full, undivided attention - Steam, diesel and electric, 'tis all good !

My post office usually ask me if it's "toy trains again" as that's what I've always said in the past when posting stuff sold on ebay.

Model trains never were cool ;)

Couldn't care less what people think, none of their business really. Probably more worthwhile than their shallow existence anyway! If you saw the picture of me dressed as a My Little Pony you'd see I hold to this philosophy all the time :D

You're really that desperate for a laugh? ;D

Link to original post with very embarrassing picture

Anyone who walks through Cardiff city centre on a saturday morning dressed like that does NOT give a flying fetlock what other people think :)

Not sure if you're My Little Pony or the Village People  ;D

Just one Pendolino, give it to me, a beautiful train, from Italy

Although an Amazon seller sent me Track Magic (which contains petrol) by post Hattons moan that RM physically destroyed lots of their parcels before they toed the line with the new regs. But probably businesses are probably under more scrutiny than private individuals. Although I can imagine some employee with 40 years "service" who still can't understand the word "customer" sitting at an X Ray machine ahead of a 3 week backlog cackling with triumph as he presses the destruct button every few minutes.

There are no restrictions on sending electrical items unless large capacity batteries are attached:

Just tell them it's a circuit board without any batteries and they'll be happy.

Happy modelling.

Ok Pengi.... back on topic....  :P

There could be a  element of sense in what 4x2 says above about discharging the capacitors... after switching off my layout at the wall, I always press a point button to discharge the CDU, as I came back 3 days later once, and found the charge light still on! I know it's a long shot and probably being over-cautious, but with mower fuel, turps, etc. in the same garage, I don't take chances!
