My good lady and I fulfilled another of her musical ambitions and saw Midge Ure at our local venue.

The guy is a machine, word and note perfect. Totally blown away by the whole gig.

Footage from the gig (not mine) is here

I absolutely love Ultravox, but struggle to get into Midge's solo output to the same degree.

The thing that sticks out for me in @Foxhound 's video post is the drum/cymbal sounds are obviously from an electric kit, just doesn't sound quite as good (speaking as a drummer who has a leccie kit at home but real accoustic kits for gigs)

Yes, I thought it was a leccie kit too. His bass player was very good, needed to be up a bit more in the mix, I thought.

Sorry @Foxhound and @ntpntpntp , am I missing something here? The live drum sound (IMO) is poor but the kit being played appears to be acoustic. The hi-hat is very bright in the mix but in any event it looks like the performance has been captured on a smartphone - hence the poor sound. Midge Ure is looking a bit older than when I last saw him!

Here are some well recorded drums...

Don't want to start an argument but I probably have...

PS the bass guitar is lost in the mire.

@Moonglum    it's clearly a leccie kit in the Midge video.  Shallow drum shells and rubber cymbals :)   That hi-hat sound (which may be intentionally electronic sounding for this song anyway)

Thanks Nick, I wouldn't have known from that camera angle.

PS Rubber cymbals!

Probably the best pub band that escaped being a pub band (except maybe Chas & Dave)

I've never been into Ultravox or Midge Ure to any great extent although I have seen Ultravox a couple of times.

Dr Feelgood - I've always thought of them, as @EtchedPixels says, as a high quality, foot stomping, top quality pub band who made it quite big.

For me one of the best ever pub rock outfits was Brinsley Schwarz :
