Enjoy Tim.

I have to wait another 5 weeks to see them - very much looking forward to it.

Newportnobby

To my mind probably the best mix ever made. I have a feeling @kusojiji will like it

kusojiji

Haha, yeah you felt right! Awesome! I have seen mixes like this in the past and most are very well done.

Thanks!!

My fingers would be all tied up in a knot and I'd have an anneurism.

Newportnobby

She's damned good on that guzheng. What you don't see is that the instrument is 64" long

A track off the excellent Island sampler double album by relatively unknown group 'If'

Remarkably Mick @Newportnobby , If released 8 albums between 1970 and 1975! I recall the track well and liked it. The late Dick Morrissey of If later formed Morrissey Mullen (Jim) which became a popular and successful jazz funk outfit in the early 1980s. Here is one of my favourite MM tracks, the haunting "Cape Wraith"...

I rather like that If track from Bumpers @Newportnobby although in years gone by I rather played it to death.

@Moonglum I've nort heard of Morrissey Mullen but that is very pleasant listening.

@EtchedPixels I'm afraid that Valhalla Calling is definitely not my kind of thing.

Here's a band I've been listening to today. I guess it falls into the category of Progressive Melody if there is such a thing.

Here's Karnataka with One Moment in Time :

And here's a less than perfect live version although the singer, Rachel Cohen might brighten up your evening :

That's very pleasant indeed Martin @port perran (there is a bit of Judie Tzuke/Pink Floyd/and others in there - interesting band history).

Going back to Dick Morrissey, he was quite a prolific artist and appeared on many records. Many would have heard him on this without knowing who it was...

One of my favourite films. I will come back to Vangelis in a future post.

The Yes album 'Fragile'.
Not one of their albums I listen to a lot for some reason, but when I do I always enjoy it

"Fragile" was my first Yes LP and is still one of my favourites.

Going back to Vangelis, there are probably not many Greek musicians that one can think off. Vangelis and Demis Roussos were members of the Greek prog rock band Aphrodite's Child formed in 1967, both went on to have successful and very different careers. Nana Mouskouri produced a whopping 450 LPs! I am sure there are many successful Greek artists that I simply have just not heard of. Cat Stevens has Greek ancestry so doesn't really count.

Several years ago, a fellow volunteer lent me a number of CDs to listen to. Included was a more recent Greek prog rock band called Verbal Delirium (catchy eh!) and from their album "Small Hours of Weakness" this track stood out...

See what you think.

If you are wondering what Aphrodite's Child sound like here is a sample...

OK, lets have some Nana as well...

Tim

PS Vangelis auditioned to play in Yes after Rick Wakeman left.

Well Tim @Moonglum , Greek music has, like many others I suspect, rather passed me by.

I had no idea that Nana Mouskouri had produced 450 LPs. That is staggering.

I was never a fan of Beggar's Opera Aphrodite's Child but Verbal Delirium sound interesting. In fact, I may have listened to them before, fleetingly, without knowing that they are Greek.

As for Yes, I think that I've said before that, in my opinion, they rather lost their way after their initial output. To me The Yes Album and Fragile were probably their best albums.

Edit - I've no idea why I originally wrote Beggar's Opera. Now amended.
I must be going mad!
