Of all the pub rock/almost made it little rock bands, Man really stood out for me.

Just stumbled on to Wishbone Ash Argus album which I used to hold in high esteem.

It's still good. Two lead guitars, for heavens sake!  :beers:
Vision over visibility. Bono, U2.

That is a superb album.
I think it's the Turner bothers on guitars if I remember correctly.

Newportnobby

Correct, Martin.
Mind you, whoever told them they could sing wants a slap.
Never stopped Mark Knopfler, though :D

Not wishing to sound pedantic but the twin lead/rhythm guitarists were Andy Powell and Ted Turner, Martin Turner was on bass/lead vocals and Steve Upton on drums. The Turners were not related. They originated from sunny Torquay! Messrs Powell and M Turner now tour with their own versions of Wishbone Ash. Here is one of my favourite but later tracks from "New England"...

For some reason I always associate 'Argus' with Tolkein's 'Lord of the Rings', maybe because I was reading it in the early 70s when 'Argus' was released and I bought it (still have it on vinyl)

Moonglum

I know what you mean Mick @Newportnobby , do you remember this?

I had the album on vinyl at the time and (still) being a big LOTR fan rather liked it but not enough for a CD purchase. Doesn't sound bad now...

Cheers,

Tim

I'm afraid I know absolutely nothing about Lord of the Rings but I know it inspired a fair bit of music back in the 70s.
Argent's Lothlorien was a favourite of mine .

I did like Bo Hansson though and had the Magician's Hat on vinyly.
Here's a sample :

Sorry, Chaps. I've never heard of Bo Hanssen and he did nothing for me.
Actually not true. He sent me to sleep!!
Apologies

I've been working in the train room this morning and listening to my Spotify Discover Weekly compilation.

Now....I've never been a fan of Stairway to Heaven as performed by Led Zeppelin but I'm rather taken by this version which popped up on Discover Weekly :
I know a lot of people don't really like cover versions of songs but this one definitely works for me.

Plus you get to see, briefly, some railway pictures.

Newportnobby

Different. I think I like it but the jury's still out :hmmm:

Here's another version I like, played in front of some old rockers I think I recognise
