British Railway Modelling(BRM) magazine - new format

In case you've not looked at this mag recently , in November last year it revised it's format completely . It used to have great big wodges (technical term) of dense , impenetrable text & always had what seemed to me like a kind of nerdy look to it . HUGE improvement now....loads more photos , much clearer 'how to' articles & 'step-by-step' guides . The current issue (February) has a layout feature on Black Country Blues layout (not n gauge BUT still great !) with some absolutely brilliant photos by Andy York . have a look & see what you think !!! I like the new BRM very much, I think it has a fresh new look. I wasn't over fond of the big wodges of text in the old version.

There's a rule one for magazines too

BRM's relationship with RMweb puts me off I'm afraid.
Both platforms are too biased towards certain manufacturers/products in my opinion.

I very rarely buy BRM magazine due to this. Any change in format will NOT change or increase my interest levels either way unfortunately.

Not a fan of the new BRM I am afraid.  Mind you I cancelled my subscription not long after Tony Wright left - it was not the same.  I see he is back again so may be things will improve.

It seems to have turned into a comic. Great if you like comic book presentation but I must admit I preferred text.

I don't mind the new style - the photos are good, but I do miss the in-depth text. It wasn't dense and impenetrable IMO but a welcome, informative and good read. For me the swing has probably been too far towards being like some tabloid newspapers.

I thought the old BRM was getting very stale and was strugling (in my opinion) to hold on to 3rd place out of the big 4 magazines.

To change that opinion takes substance, I'm not won over by fancy covers and stylised presentation. It's the actual content that matters... I do like the more photo-orientated content, but the overall presentation style is still 'bitty' and unnecessarily littered with daft 'features' such as the arrows telling us to 'turn the page' (I'd never have worked that out for myself  ) and anoying tendancy for overlapping of photos.

The one significant change that does score positively for me is recruiting Phil Parker. He has the abitility to produce excelent models that are achievable by anyone with a little practice and patience and present them in such a way that isn't noticably 'dumbed down'.

Overall a small step in the right direction i'd put it currently in a close fight for 2nd out of the big 4 (but a long way behind the best) and a long way from the wonder product the Warners Publicity machine would have you believe...

I too disliked BRM's relationship with RM Web and cancelled my subscription many months ago.
I felt the whole thing got muddled and confused.

Funny you mention it.  I was reading the new one this week and felt it a bit lacking.  I thought it was a bit "dumbed down" personally but couldn't really put a finger on on it.  I just put it down to a bad month, hope next one won't be.
