Class 47 in XP64 Livery...

Hi Folks,

I have always fancied a Class 47 D1733 in the XP64 livery from the 1960s...

Does anyone know if Graham Farish current Class 47 is an accurate shape for such a livery?

I would like to see one of these, but I am not sure of the answer to your question. I would think it would be a case of working out what version the XP64 was (47/0, 47/3, 47/4 etc) and seeing if Farish did do a representation.

If they don't there are sure to be some detail / conversion packs out there (by the likes of TPM). Even if Farish can provide the correct version, a detail pack would enhance what should be a unique model

Sorry if that's a bit generic / obvious but I was only just reading about this train last night so the thread caught my eye.

Agreed, 371-825A will meet your requirements for a basic repaint only
No other conversion is required

So the XP64 Class 47 was only ever used to pull the special XP64 train? If memory serves weren't the coaches in the train a sort of MKII hybrid?

Mmm, sounds interesting. I wonder what it takes to get Bachmann to create a limited edition? Obviously money but what is the minimum order size for locos? Anyone got insight?

The XP64 Class 47 and coaches was a lighter shade of blue than adopted as the standard BR corporate image. I believe the red-backed BR logos didn't last long, as they were vinyl decals which came off after the first wash!

Speaking of vinyls, when I am back up and running again, I can produce the XP64 coaches as overlays to fit the Farish Mk1 clear shell. They are slightly deeper than the standard Mk1s, as the prototypes had the bodyside panels extended over the frames to give a more Mk2-ish appearance.

The XP64 coaches have never been sellers in the ERG range for some reason, despite lasting in service until the 1980s. Perhaps I ought to have a bash at a set!

The shade of blue was called Monastral Blue. The vinyls were only applied for publicity photographs; at the time the double arrow hadn't been approved so they were deliberately removed. The XP64 coaches were in the same blue with light grey uppers without white lining and the unusual 'jack-knife' doors. The coaches were later rebuilt with normal Mk.1 doors and gained standard blue/grey livery.
