Heed the advice, Cudders :)
Mojos come and go, but the railways get into your bloodstream so resistance is already futile as you have been assimilated.
Whatever you decide, I wish you all the best

Thanks for the replies guys.

I know what you mean! My other hobbies are..rebuilding my Lambretta, I have an allotment, I have marine fish and I also paint wargame figures for cash. Work full time, football and far too many visits to the pub..

Time for the layout is nil at the moment. I will defo keep my fave things and those I probably couldn't get again like my J50's and A5's. The rest I will think about but could do with the cash too.

Alot to think about.

Not the right area but which wargames figures do you paint?  :-[

As for giving up the hobby, if you feel you have too much to store, sell just a few models on and box up your favourites, some track and a controller in an area youll remember and wait a few months. Im sure the bug will bite again and youll want to continue/restart a layout. (as others have said here) If not after a few months, sell on the rest.
At the end of the day, its your choice though
OK who took my cake?

Cudders, I know we all empathise with you and for many different reasons. Personally I blundered with the plan, simple but in practice/skill level I know no solution (wonderful if operated from the back/fiddle area). I don't  know about you but my answer was to keep buying stock hoping to get that spark back, end result swamped, it's a fight to get anywhere near the layout. Perhaps I have become a collector. Point being only you will know how much this pastime means to you. So certainly keep your special things just in case of a change mind in the future. Cheers john.

Hi Pal, I've done most areas and scales but mainly now do Napoleonics in the smaller scales.

Hi

Don't sell up - you will regret it someday.

I have packed up my n gauge layouts 4 times and non of these events were because I had to move but because I did not have the time to devote to the hobby.

Every time I packed away the locos in their boxes which I always keep and put the rolling stock in spare room cabinet drawers. I also wrapped and stored the points. Everything else was split up and put in the loft - even the base boards - some had to be cut into sections to fit through the hatch. Peco flexi track was stored kept together with elastic bands and string in bundles and put in the loft.

I had moans from others wanting to use the spare room drawers for their spare clothes but not enough to warrant them being moved.

I have moved the packed up railway stuff six times to new houses.

Each time the railway was ressurrected I was able to re-use a lot of the stuff and this has saved me a packet (especially with points).
I have now even got most of my old Minitrix and Peco locos working again after cleaning away all the dust and grime outside and within.

Now that I am retired, have the space and time I am very glad I kept them all!!

Cheers

Mac

Well, decision has been made.

Keeping one box of stuff(decent size) and rest is going.

I may regret it, time will tell  :hmmm:

Well after more thought and selling about 10 wagons......

I went out and bought Class 108 DMU and a Class 03  ::)

I just couldn't do it...all boxed and packed ready for when I start again..probably in the loft.

Well I have tried to give up model railways twice and I keep coming back.  In the 80s I sold all my railway stuff to fund my new computer hobby.  After returning to the hobby I gave all my N gauge models to my brother who then went on to exchange them for OO items!  In 1996 I gave in again and have been with N Gauge ever since.  I so wish I had kept the models from the earlier times as I have ended up re-purchasing a number of them.

The good thing with N Gauge is that the models seem to hold their value well.  So unless you need the cash I would suggest you pack them away carefully and forget about them.

Two car DMU, shunter and some wagons. Sounds like you need a micro-layout !

You know I would think a 3ft piano line (maybe a 2'6 one) would fit both the DMU and the shunting including fiddle siding at the back.

I understand how you feel Cudders, you have a lot of irons in the fire which is great, but keep your train stuff cause you will need it later.
Keep on Smiling
