What loco is this please?

Whilst stood at Newton Abbot station yesterday  during delays i watched the timber train hooking up please excuse my ignorance but what is the loco? is it a class 50?

100% a class 56.
You are very lucky to have seen it.

Although an old diesel design, it is new for this company and livery.

Ok thanks guys it's there a couple of times a week at the moment i feel a bit dumb now as the number on the side is 56094 so i guess the 56 is the class everyday is a day at school

He's probably got one of those perspex bases which people use sometimes.

To me it looks as though he is standing on the platform. As the loco has its headlights on at the end next to the wagon, there is a reflection of the wagon tail lamp on the cab front and there is a person in the drivers seat I would suggest that the loco is about to be coupled to the wagons. The person on the platform is probably the shunter.
