Cable heat shrink hand held heater

Friends,

As most are aware I am busy using a lot of heat shrink tubing in constructing my console.

Several people suggested using a soldering iron for the shrinking of the sleeving which works if your hands are steady!

I purchased a heat gun that used refillable lighters and as our friend Paul (Only me) pointed out it was good for setting fire to bonfires and the other wires, so it was ditched!

I asked my friends on the craft circuit and I have now purchased the ideal heater.  It is hand held and is VERY manoeuvrable  and easy to use.

I thought that if anyone else is needing a similar machine the link might be valuable?

Being Scottish and always keen to keep up the stereotype  I bought my heat gun second hand and managed to buy it for £2 plus postage.  They pop up regularly, so if you want one and are willing to be patient, they can be bought cheaply

Couldn`t EP or Electra Graphics be tempted into producing a nice graphic railway wrap for them

Many gas soldering iron sets (e.g. http://www.dremel.com/en-au/Tools/Pages/ToolDetail.aspx?pid=2000AU#.VZGc1_mqqko) include a tip suitable for heat shrinking. I use one of these, but there are other cheaper ones around. Most electronics shops would sell gas soldering iron sets. 

These are good for working in awkward spots too - no power lead to add to the tangle!

I have used one of these at work. It has done many many heat shrink jobs where portability is needed. We have a mains one for the bench.

Thank you, I had thought of this type and there was one on Ebay (new) for £10.00 but not very useful in very tight situations, plus I had no use for it afterwards.
